WALE

As you all know, being in the RI radio biz you have to put up with a lot of joblessness and homelessness. So here I was, panhandling on North Main St. when I walked past the WALE studio. A large truck pulled up at the same time and the white letters on the grille read ISUZU. Man I felt so jealous. Please kill me.

Does anyone out there have any insights as to how legitimate the current spanish language romantic music format is on 990? Have any paying spots actually run on 990's air?

The cynical side of me thinks this format is just acting as a place-holder until someone(s) can figure out how to reprogram it, or just as a way to keep the license alive, and buy enough time for the right buyer to come along (not such a great time for it with the credit crunch, but......).

No idea, but if someone buys the place, it needs a lot of TLC from what the Troll told me.Good luck to whoever does.

According to R&R's site, they're launching a Spanish language pop format "La Nueva Amor 990AM" on 12/6. They'll play some tropical hits, but will count down the top 990 pop songs of 2007 starting midnight 12/4. This tells me they're going to play popular non-Spanish hits for the most part, but the jocks will speak Spanish. Kind of an interesting concept actually, but I wonder if the audience is there for it. I'm sure younger Latinos speak & understand English quite well & have no intention of listening to AM radio, while the segment that would rather hear Spanish speaking people on the air have no intention of sitting through Colbie Caillat.

And were there actually 990 popular songs in 2007?
