I was just wondering which station does better in the ratings and which one sounds better in your opinion. I prefer KJoy. WALK is kind of boring. What is your opinion on these two stations?<P ID="signature">______________

WALK does better in the ratings because it has a strong signal compared to KJoy. You can hear WALK all over the island. Plus WALK is a heritage station.

In fact, WALK has been #1 in the Long Island book continuously for the past few years, and usually ends up #1, or close to #1, in the Riverhamptons book. They even beat out WKJY in the NY metro book by about five-tenths or so.

Personally they both sound pretty boring to me :)

WALK is ok, but I think K Joy is more entertaining, more upbeat, and has more "fun", but AC stations are normally a quiet place to hang out I guess. I know this is an odd question to ask now, but I was just wondering. Do both stations go all Christmas? Does one stay AC and one go all holiday music? Last year I remember WALK playing all Christmas music, but I don't know about KJoy.

WALK vs. K-Joy & 4 more?

As you know, WALK does go All Christmas. K-Joy sort of does, but not a 24-7 commitment. K-Joy did all christmas for the Thanksgiving 4-day weekend, and then let the holiday tunes rest until December. Then they would do All Christmas on Weekends only. In other recent past years K-Joy had done All Christmas Weekends, All Christmas In the evening, but regular format for the AM Drive, Mid day and evening drive during the week.

The other station to examine while looking at K-Joy and WALK is Love 96.1 LI's other AC station. Also don't forget out east there is 102.5 WBAZ as well. Love 96.1 had done all Christmas in the past, but I don't think they did so this year. I think they did like K-Joy and did it only nights and weekends. And WBAZ also didn't do 24-7 Christmas, but they did "Christmas Lites on the baz" each evening.

NOW, Anyone remember when WBLI used to be AC? We also had Magic 94.3 WMJC for a while. Between WALK, K-Joy, WMJC, WBLI, WHFM(95.3) and WBAZ(101.7) we had 6 FM AC stations. Thats not counting the AC coming from NYC or Connecticut. And people think we cornered the market on Classic Rock.

Yep...all the AC I can get in central Suffolk County:

96.1 WLVG
97.5 WALK
98.3 WKJY
99.9 WEZN
100.5 WRCH
100.7 WHUD
102.5 WBAZ
103.9 WFAS
106.5 WBMW
106.7 WLTW
107.9 WEBE

Plus all the Hot AC-type stations:
94.3 WMJC
95.5 WPLJ
96.5 WTIC
101.1 WCBS

Not to mention all the classic rock stations....all that, and no alternative rock stations except for WLIR, which has a signal from here to down the block.

Re: WALK vs. K-Joy & 4 more?

I don't thinK BLI was ever an AC station. From what I remember they were HOT AC in the early & mid 90's before morphing into a CHR in the summer of 96.

If memory serves me correct WBLI did go A/C all of a sudden in the late 80's for a while. They even had some goofy slogan too, but that I can't seem to remember.

Re: WALK vs. K-Joy & 4 more?

I used to listen to WBLI all the time, so I remember this well. They went AC in the summer of 1991 and returned to CHR sometime around 1996.

WRCN (where WFAS isn't getting in the way), WAXQ, WBAB, WEFX, WRKI, WBON, plus two other stations that play a lot of classic rock tunes in their mix...WCHN from Hartford and 107.1 The Peak.

I remember BLI being more a bit more upbeat than WALK & the old Mix 105 in the early 90's

It was just a touch more upbeat, very little. It was kind of close to a Hot AC, but if one had to define the format it would still be AC.
