WALK-AM 1370...Is it time for a change?

Does anyone really listen to the music on am 1370? What if CC flipped AM 1370 to carry CC's Fox Sports and Jim Rome (live) franchises? Would anyone listen? What does everyone think?

A few years back everyone on the board here was all happy that Jack didnt hang up his cans, me too, its nice to listen to a okd school radio guy who is still doing what he loves. I live out east, not far from WALK, but I cant get the signal, no way! The only time I am able to check out the station is when Im in town, or remember when I am heading west. I imagine that they took WLIM's local merchant business, and are making money, local dollars. I cant see a sports only station that serves a few south shore towns. Sports only would be a great idea if there wasnt a station doing that at 660am (imho)

Oh, how I miss the days when I used to say at the end of my newscasts, "WALK FM & AM, Patchogue"... (late 80's)

I think they should leave it just as is. While, granted, it is mostly syndicated "Music Of Your Life", I think there is that little niche that they do hit- the ones that can't get WHLI. I love the fact that Ellsworth is still on the air.
No, they should stay the way they are. However, knowing the way CC runs, they'll manage to screw it up.

I agree with the two other post's. The WALK 1370 should stay the way it is. Jack is a great on air talent. It is too bad the signal doesn't cover a larger area. The station provides the area with local programming. We have WFAN and other radio stations that touch on sports.

Otherwise WALK-AM would be giving freebies to their FM advertisers...plus it's as local as local radio gets, something everybody here has been lamenting about on the cookie cutter formats.

Off-topic, but something Skywalk2 will get a kick out of:

We always play WALK in my 3 1/2 yr old's room when he goes to bed. Living in Coram, it comes in the clearest. He is also a big Star Wars fan. Last night they did a post-fireworks traffic report, and my son starts repeating over and over "Skywalker Traffic...Skywalker Traffic..."

If I am not mistaken, the Star Wars thing has something to do with WALK calling it "Skywalk" Traffic. That was a couple of years before I came on-board. Those were the days we had the Skywalk Traffic Copter. That's got to be at least 20 years ago. Yikes!<P ID="signature">______________

At the risk of sounding like I am doing some butt-kissing, the traffic reports haven't been the same lately. I recently moved further east, and needed a good traffic report in the morning for the first time in about 8 years. I remembered WALK giving a very comprehensive report, so I tuned them in. I was shocked to find that they usually just briefly cover the Southern and Northern States, and IGNORE the LIE (which, of course, is my primary route). The whole report can't be more than 30 seconds.
