Walkie Talkie Signal Antenna Rig Help!

hey, i'm trying to make my walkie talkie broadcast signal stronger, so far i just took it apart and put one end of a piece of speaker wire around the antenna, and it increased it a little bit. does anybody know any way that could possibly give it an even bigger boost, any help would be appreciated. any rigs or any knowledge of how to make a stronger home made antenna other than JUST a piece of speaker wire running up the wall.

Not legally. What you did violates the FCC certification for that device. It was built and tested with the antenna it has, and as such, that is the only way you are allowed use it (Not that many of us haven't tried something similar over the years ;) ).

Besides, if the extra wire along with the built-in antenna doesn't add up to a multiple of 1/4 wavelength at the frequency your walkie-talkie operates on (you don't mention it - is it an older 27 or 49 MHz unit?), it probably won't do much good due to the mismatch.

my unit is a Uniden and i got it on ebay new in the box last summer. it says it has a 5 mile coverage, but it does'nt go even close to 5 miles, like 2 and 1/2 i guess, but before it cut out at an even shorter distance.
