Walkout At WTIX-FM

I understand that Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux was being paid $15 a day to work 3 hour afternoons with Bob Walker to help get the station established. When the ratings came out and they were doubled, T-Ben asked for a raise. Bear in mind that $15.00 for 3 hours was all Costello was apparently paying him. The story continues that the ever generous and really concerned for his staff Michael Costello refused to increase the $5 an hour pay, so T-Ben quit the afternoons, and, in support of T-Ben's pitiful salary situation, Bob Walker walked too.

If this is true, this dismal station deserves what it gets. Nobody will work for Costello anymore in sales, engineering or on-air. The moral here: Costello is Costello and will never change. Screwing his people out of money seems to be a game with him. Joseph redux.

Reno quit. Walker quit. T-Ben quit. Blair is about to quit.

Get ready for "WTIX...all Michael all the time."

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I used to love listening to the afternoon show. It really was the only good thing that train wreck of a radio station had going for it. The rest of the day is total crap music and unynchronized voice tracks. Michael has lived up to his image of being a spoiled rich idiot yet again.

Oh wow, this is sorry to read. Even I made more then that in North Dakota LOL :)

I'm friends with someone who worked at WTIX-FM in the late 60s and early 70s.... was a great place once

For the record, "1060am" who made the above post is NOT associated with 1060AM WLNO! We do not know who this person is!

Come on Radio people, is anyone really surprised that this weasel is acting this way?

And WTIX-FM was not a radio station in the 60's and 70's. That was WTIX-AM, a truly fine station that created tons of radio talent back in it's heyday

No, I wasn't even aware that 1060 was now a "WLNO", whatever that is. 1060 was WNOE in the glory years and I worked there in the 80's, thus my S/N. How you got your drawers in a knot and figured my screen name reflected unfavorably on the current 1060 am call letters that no one knows exists these days is beyond me. But if I offended you and the other "WLNO" listener, my deepest apologies.

I have always been amazed at Mike Costello's gall to think that his money can re-write history to include him on a super station that his fat ass was never a part of.

Ok, i got em confused.... so shoot me.

Ok:)

Nope WTIX-FM was the former KZZQ and KLEB-FM Golden Meadow before being moved to Plaqumines parish and only existing in Lafourche as a COL only (WTIX is one of only a handful of W stations west of the Mississippi both in COL and tower)

WTIX.. the Mighty 690 faded to a talk station know known as WIST

But if it's true about people walking... what would have built a station for him made it crumble again

RFLA

What a great radio station WNOE-AM was during the 70's...I still have airchecks of Gary Burbank, Don Anthony, Jason O'brien and Big Jim Cassidy. The old compression, reverb and music that was pitched about 3%. That station kicked real butt in it's day!!

Buzz

Heard Costello would screw his employees at every chance. Guess his only loyality is to his pocket book. Sounds like he's paying slave wages. Heard Blair on late last week doing Walker's time but has he quit as well? Thursday, thought I heard him say something about tropical Chris during the weather but wasn't sure I heard right. That was the first week of August? Could it be Costello replayed another day he was on and nobody listened for dated material? He wasn't on tonight. Leave it to the Monkee-wannabe let the folks that gave the station a bit of creditability, go. [EDIT]

[EDIT= ethnic slur]

Oh yeah! Original RealRock!!!! So much damn compression a truck passing or firetruck buzzing around the corner was loud as hell on-air!!! Those were the days.

Re: Walkout At WTIX-FM? THAT'S VERY STRANGE

Walkout at TIX-FM? I find that very strange. I heard BOTH Bob Walker and Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux monday afternoon and I did not hear any clue of a walkout.
Sounds like the person who started this thread is a reject from the corporate radio giant who is envious of Mike because he did not have the balls to stick it out like he did.
WTIX-FM is one of the very few local owned stations left in the UNITED STATES. Sure wished that Mr. Costello would have bought WCKW and resurrected ROCK RADIO......

"For the record, "1060am" who made the above post is NOT associated with 1060AM WLNO! We do not know who this person is!"

God forbid anyone would reflect even more negatively on your station than it does on itself.

To Axedriver:

I recommend that you stop smoking weed while listening to the radio so you can avoid embarrassing yourself with subsequent mindless rants.

Bobby Reno was on PM drive on WTIX Monday. Neither T-Ben nor Walker have been on the afternoon show since last Monday a week ago (8/14). I have been listening for them to be back but now that I know why they're not there I'm finished listening to that oldies garbage dump station.

I know he has to rebuild the tower and transmitter, but to be that cheap to pay T-Ben a mere 5 dollars more. SAD!!!! :-[ Does he think the public only listens to Michael and his Beatles rant.

There's only so much Monkee Monday and Beatle Thursday people can stomach. After having talent walk out and Costello evidently could care less...he needs to clean up those train wrecks like Sweet & Innocent by Donny Osmond into Dy'er Maker by Zepplin. What a mix! And that was a Bobby Reno voice track yesterday afternoon.

No surprise

Don't like knocking someone trying to compete against monsters like CC, but everyone who ever claims to have worked in New Orleans radio should know that working at TIX FM means making minimum wage and putting up with lots of b.s. for no money.

Ask employees of the old WRNO about bouncing paychecks.
I'm just surprised no one has mentioned all the work that Joe C. did with teenage boys. :-* ;)
