Kudos to WALK and the News on Demand portion of its website. Last night there was an incident in Nesconset which warranted what appeared to be at least 10 police cars, a SWAT like truck, Emergency Services and Crime scene vehicles, K-9s etc. The incident must have started around 5 or 6 PM and was still going on 5 hours later. I was unable to find a report of this on News12, Newsday.com or any other media outlet other than walkradio.com. It certainly seemed like an incident that warranted some mention from local media! While not what it used to be, WALK does manage to maintain a very local flavor in terms of community information and service as compared to most radio stations in Central and Western Suffolk.
As an aside, the young man supplying the report/content, James Brierton, is a Junior at Smithtown High School East according to the Smithtown School District website.
