WALL 1340- Mark West Ratings

How's Mark West doing on ratings for his morning show on WALL ? I'm wondering if WEOK will continue to lease him time or put True Oldies back on or another show on that time slot.

My guess is no one knows because I am sure WALL doesn't buy the "HUD" book, or the specially created Hudson Valley book.

I don't know if the ratings come out, we shall see. WEOK and WALL is continue with their "True Oldies Channel" run by Scott Shannon, but I don't know if Mark West continues to do mornings on WALL. Let's face it! WGNY's "Fox Oldies" is doing well and so does the new WBPM, they're still going to do battle. I hope there's a speculation that WEOK and WALL should flip to sports and it will become HV's new home of CBS Sports Radio starting next month. They're going to be on all affiliates including WFAN-AM. Over the past year, WEOK/WALL got a big fat zero in the ratings, but it would be great to bring sports radio back to the HV that hasn't been done since 2003 when ESPN Radio pulled the plug. Let's hope for that!

Since Cumulus is leasing Mark West the time why would they pull him from WALL as long as he makes the payments it is guaranteed cash. They don’t have to be concerned about the lack of ratings or selling or giving away commercial time. Since Cumulus does not subscribe to Arbitron there are no current ratings available but WEOK/WALL have not shown up at all in any book through various formats for many years. It would be great if he was on WEOK also but Mark probably can’t afford both. His show is better than the 24-7 canned Scott Shannon show. That said, we must remember that the program is on an AM station offering the same basic format available on FM. I think Mark is fine unless Cumulus decides to flip WEOK/WALL again.

Mark West has indicated many times to me at e-mail he fears his show may not continue unless he gets enough advertisers. I wonder if hes getting enough advertisers now ? This might be the right time for Cumulus to make a change to their format.

It is a massive undertaking to not only produce your own show, but have to sell commercial time as well. It must be very difficult to deal with sponsors as an individual. Even if he has help with billing, as he is essentially competing with the radio stations with their sales staffs. WALL is not really listenable here in Hyde Park, but Kudos to Mark for trying. I wonder how much Cumulus charges him for his service to them.

Yes it would be great if Mark West was on WEOK as well, WEOK does need to add local programming if not in the morning then on the weekends.

As far Mark West being on the air in the Hudson Valley is an asset to any station to have. Mark will continue as long as he wants it to and find a better location for the studios, because where it is now it seems very small and dangerous for those who would like to come a plug something. He deserves credit for even trying to bring back WALL and showing there is a need for local radio in the Middletown area. The ratings shouldn't be a concern, but the concern should be on giving the support he most richingly deserves by showing advertisers there is local radio in Middletown once again and take a chance on advertising with him.

Mark is actually doing quite well. He has nearly 30 clients on the air, many of them impressive ones. He celebrates his 2nd anniversary soon. WALL was huge back in the 60's and 70's, and many people in the "demo" remember that, and enjoy hearing their favorite station once again. They play it all day at the barbershop I go to...LOL

Arbitron no longer surveys "Newburgh / Middletown" by itself. In the last ratings for that area, 2 years ago, WALL showed up and easily beat its long time rival in key demos. If ratings were still being taken today, WALL would show with respectable numbers.

Give him a listen sometime at wallhasitall.com, and "like" the Facebook page www.facebook.com/hvtrueoldies

WEOK IS IN P'TOWN
WALL IS IN MIDDLETOWN
COMINED FOR A SINGLE MORNING
IT WOULD BE ANOTHER REGIONAL STATION
THE FCC GAVE WALL IT TICKET TO SERVE THE AREA
THE CURRENT MORNING SHOW DOES

BEING ON WEOK HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY
CUMULUS OFFERED IT FOR FREE TO WEST AND HE TURNED THEM DOWN

SOMEBODY SHOULD GET OFF THERE 'MAYBE SOMEDAY'
BEHIND AND START TALKING TO SOME LOCAL
PO'TOWN SPONSORS AND SEE
IF THEY COULD DO THE SAME THING UP
THERE ON WEOK...IF THEY HAD THE BALLS

QUACK QUACK QUACK

BY THE WAY FOR ALL WHO QUESTION AND SPECULATE

CUMULUS HAS MADE A COMMITMENT
TO AIR THE MARK WEST PROGRAM TFN...

AND CULUMUS HAS NO PLANS ON ENDING THE TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL
CONTRACT
