Walter Sabo Half A$$es it in Philly

Where is the IQ? Al Gardner who was washed up down south teamed with Larry Mendte who is a complete sc*m bag that was fired and arrested for hacking a co-workers email account. Rush and Hannity are trending down nationally. As a matter of fact, Hannity's numbers were so bad in Philly WPHT finally said enough is enough. Walter Sabo said these Merlin Station were going to reinvent radio...well, Walter, that was a bit of an exaggeration. The only thing Walter is good at is marketing himself and taking credit for other people's work. Walter gave Philadelphia one more sh*tty AM talk station that happens to be on FM. I think it is safe to say that I will not be cancelling my Sirius account.

In defense of Sabo, he's been out of the picture at Merlin for months and had, as I understand it, no say in what IQ now is. That said, you're right; the station ain't very good.

Even the normally good Jay Sorenson sounded awkward and out of place on WWIQ today. It seemed as if he hadn't done any show prep on current events relevant to Philly or the state of PA, because he'd spend 10 minutes talking about New Jersey, and then finish it by saying "...and I'm sure it's the same way here in Philadelphia, too."

I know the rotating mid-day hosts are all just there to fill the schedule until WWIQ gets Rush, but c'mon -- they've got to try a little harder than that!

well, it IS a New Jersey station!...I agree, from what I've heard it's a stale copy of an anywhere USA mostly syndicated talk station with a poor sounding local morning show. On the professional level of WFYL.

So I guess it's Big Jay that rounds out the trifecta of former NJ 101.5 talent (Jerson, Bartholomew) used as substitute talk hosts. (Hilarie Barsky, a former colleague of Big Jay's at 101.5, does news in the A.M.)

Here's the dilemma: You need local hosts. Typically, you would get local hosts from smaller market stations. But think about it; how many smaller market stations are developing new, fresh talent today? ZERO. (Well, maybe one. NJ 101.5) So it's only logically that talent from that station, which is in the shadow of Philly, would move into the Philly slots.

And now today it's another former NJ101.5/WCTC host on 106.9: Mary Walter. I just had the pleasure of listening to hear talk for an entire half-hour without getting a single caller.

So who's next tomorrow? Roberta Gale? Ted Efaw?

First of all, in an election year, Rush, Hannity, and Beck will be strong this fall. People aren't focused on the general election yet...summer is just beginning. Keep your Sirius channel all you want..just be sure to stay away from the "left" channel.....

First of all, Rush left WPHT -- not the other way around.

That's true. Premiere probably was pissed off at all the pre-empts for Phillies baseball, espwecially this year when you can hear the Phillies on WIP-FM. For years, I couldn't understand why day baseball games never went to WIP-AM. When WRKO in Boston had Rush and the Red Sox, day ball games went to WEEI. I do't think that Premiere likes that Beck & Hannity were taken off either. Were those 2 shows at the end of contracts? Why does WPHT even want to keep Rush on at this point or why does Premiere still want him there? It's already announced he's leaving. Couldn't both parties end the contract sooner?

PHT wants to make WWIQ fill noon-3 with other stuff for as long as possible.

Actually the last couple seasons before WIP went FM they did carry a bunch of weekday day games for that very reason.

Those games were on both WIP-AM and WPHT. They still pre-empted Rush and/or Sean on 1210.

very few days games m-f for the Phils. so, pre-emps were not a problem, especailly when PHT had to do make goods anyway. Didn't realize Sabo was fired at Merlin..but after what has happened in Chicago and NYC, it makes sense. I find it odd that they are trying out lifestyle talkers on merlin when the station is going to go right back to far right radio when Rush clears. Also, whoever is writing their imaging (I guess its Al Gardner), the whole "liberal CBS" means NOTHING to listeners. They think you are talking about CBS TV, not WPHT. Want to call out WPHT, call them out by name..not under the CBS banner. What a dumb move.
