Walton & Johnson

How long till there both fired I am guessing in the next 6 months or so

Welllllllll... according to their website they may be up for a change real soon!

Were Back and Ready For What ?

As we always say. If the show turns up missing from your radio station (not just best of shows like this vacation…but truly gone with no explanation like Dallas). Always check these web pages in future days to see where to get the show. To call the show it’s toll free at 866 I LOVE WJ. To write us via email just click the email links on this site. To mail us cool stuff like cash, cakes, etc. Well hold on to that for awhile until we get the address settled. (main studios might be relocating soon).

Some of you waiting for a change may get your wish... others who like the show may hopefully get to see it get a shot in the arm that could force a little more creativity on their parts.

Lately on my car stereo it seems I almost always pick them up here in Lafayette, LA, perhaps they bumped up the power and are hoping the FCC wont notice? I usually get 106.9 the point prety easily too on my car stereo.

When visiting "home" (Lafayette), I've picked up The Point many times when leaving the club at 2am. Even the RDS frequently shows up.

walton & johnson are a disease for whatever station they inhabit

No explanation for being fired in Dallas?! ??? What about no ratings?! As I said weeks ago, they are disgruntled again and will blame Cumulus. Fant and w&j only care about syndication fees, IMO: they are parasites.

While it may seem like a joke on the surface, w&j often ask listeners to give them food and other presents and they eagerly accept them. It's an abuse of the public airwaves.

You see, w&j have an infamous track record. It goes like this: Once they sign a contract with a new station within a few days they begin to find things wrong, contract violations and such. It starts with blaming engineering and phantom overnight guys that walton claims pushes buttons on the board and messes up their show. walton has always been a sloppy unprofessional board op and they will not allow anyone other than himself to run the board (poorly).
After they start blaming engineering and coworkers on air, they talk about the "stupid, green" sales people and promotions people they have to deal with. The pds and gms become the equivalent of the Howard Stern "pig vomit" character.
w&j have no problem going on air and trashing fellow on-air coworkers, and sales and promotions and management that work for the station that's been good enough to pay them lavishly and treat them like royalty.

They are shock jocks that don't attack the competition across town, but the sister stations and their employees down the hall. They don't ever renew a contract with a flagship station, they almost start immediately looking for a new home. They've caused hard feelings and strife within EVERY flagship station they've ever worked for, and they don't care.

Those guys have more vacation time than the late Johnny Carson ever did.

Their new website is nothing like their old one, which was more lavish. Their new site looks like a thrift store special! :D

You'll notice on their new bare bones website that they have drawings of what are supposed to be the 3 character voices done by steve johnson. Billy Ed the redneck, Mr. Kenneth the gay guy, and Mr. Eaux--the stereotypical black character done by white man steve johnson, who is portrayed as a lazy, stupid, thief who steals HDTVs, smokes crack and "chases da white womens." It's Amos and Andy and far worse than anything Don Imus ever said.

Question: How many radio shows in America have a white man doing a black voice on a daily basis pretending to be a lazy, crack smoking, stupid thief that chases white women? I asked that question months ago and no one responded.

To restate for those new to this board or discussion--yes, johnson does the 3 voices, but they prefer people to think there are 5 people in the studio. I guess that way if people are not aware that johnson is a white guy doing a black stereotype, then they won't complain as much.

Read what they say about their charity work on their new scaled back website. They joke about giving money to strippers, in essence, as their charity. Even though they are on several stations in 3 states, they don't do charity work nor do they donate time nor money. Any station event to raise money for charity where they appear is a paid remote.
They do nothing for free including big station events, no matter what the cause. Though they were parasites in New Orleans radio a few years, again hopping from station to station, trashing fellow employees and coworkers, they did NOTHING for Katrina victims except give bad advice.

They feel they are outside contractors and not employees of the flagship station that pays their checks. They do not answer to pds or usually gms, but deal with the owner, at least for awhile, then they have their lawyers deal with their lengthy laundry list of complaints and claims of contract violations.

For any rock station wanting a morning show, they are too divisive. They are mean spirited and angry--especially walton.
Let's face it. They were over the top with their blatent endorsements of George W. Bush and most GOP conservative Republicans, always calling anyone who has a different opinion stupid and unpatriotic. Now they are stuck with their unenlightened stupid statements. Listeners in Houston and Dallas have rejected them and their uneducated, elementary school mentality. KIOL is paying the price, like the Bone in Dallas for having a one sided, opinionated show ON A ROCK STATION!

Even though Pruett shares some of their views, no one could say what I said above about Stevens and Pruett because they didn't get so angry and abusive over politics and they didn't try to turn their morning show into some sort of right wing rant-fest.

Politics aside, w&j haven't said anything funny or original in years.

So sayeth Rex.

Rex, seriously, why are so digruntle about W&J? From what I'm reading, you listen to everything they say and know it by heart. The fact that they can say things on the radio and are not punished for it to me is pretty cool.

You seem to have a problem with Johnson and his voices. You really point out the black voice. Why do you have a problem with the black voice?? Are you black?? You seem to never say anything about the gay or redneck voice. Do you feel a white guy doing a black voice is racial??

I personally think your vendetta against them is personal and professional. I'm gonna guess that either one of them stole your wife, fired you or ran you out of town for being competition. Either way, stop writing the novels professing your hate for the boys.

Nah, if this Rex fella actually listened to the show, he would hear them trash George Bush on a daily basis as well as every other politician in office.

I typically ignore people like him, although it is kind of funny to see a guy make an azz of himself in a public forum. ::)

I'm guessing Rex is some other local morning show host. After all "Rex Tremundae" is latin for King of the Morning. I'm not going to name any names but it ryhmes with Pod Dyin.

walton & johnson should be fired.

Your Latin is as bad as your English spelling. My advice to you is buy a dictionary.

Duh, like the majority of conservative Republicans that have turned on this lame duck President primarily over the issue of immigration, w&j are trying to save face after backing George W. Bush in the last two presidential elections. They are displaying the same fickle loyalty--just like when they come aboard a new flagship station and turn on fellow employees and management. They didn't have the intellectual foresight that I did and others about this President and the war in Iraq, that they vehemently supported. Oh yeah, did you know that despite the fact that walton was old enough to serve in Vietnam, neither walton nor johnson ever served one day in the military?

I'll give you this Stone Cold Crazy, you certainly chose the right name for yourself.

w&j do not hire nor fire anyone. They do not have that type of authority within the radio station, even though they go on the air and say who they think should be fired at the station(s) they work for.

You say, "stop writing novels professing your hate for the boys." Why should I? Are you going to stop me?

Honestly S.C.C., I don't suffer fools lightly. I know how to type. I have a gift for reading and language unlike those that responded to my comments. I do understand that you may be one of those people, like many w&j listeners that must move their lips to read. I do not have difficulty with reading nor comprehension, so I'm glad to correct your misinterpretation.

It's only because I knew my response was lengthy that I didn't go into more detail about the voices. You want more of my comments? Here goes:

I've made my statements about steve johnson's black voice so I won't repeat myself, but I will say that your question about my race is irrelevant and none of your business. I ask you: How do you feel that a white guy doing a stereotypical black voice is not racial? I believe the word you meant to use was racist. I believe that johnson's black voice is a racist, stereotypical insulting slap at black people that only people who extol Ku Klux Klan views would find funny.

Johnson's gay voice character, Mr. Kenneth: I've always thought that this was the weakest of his three voice characters, from a technical point of view. It's more of a squealing man and not a good sounding "gay voice". w&j use the Kenneth character voice to have him espouse political views contrary to most held by the gay community.
Of the three voices, this one I simply regard as the most silly and stupid, but is probably a way for johnson to be effeminate and express and explore some deep inner issues and feelings.

Johnson's redneck character voice, Billy Ed: The voice is well done technically, and Billy Ed does represent the side of ignorance which johnson does well, even when he doesn't intend to. I've never cared for people like Jeff Foxworthy who laugh at the expense of impoverished Southerners to line his pockets with money. Poor white people from across the country would benefit by more money spent on education and reforming health care, positions neither supported by w&j nor the GOP. To me Johnson's Billy Ed voice character makes people in the Ku Klux Klan stand up and cheer. I do not like the dumb things he says nor the true intent and motives behind the character voice.

The thing that bothers me the most about johnson's Billy Ed character voice is that they portray him as a U.S. Army veteran, which is absurd. Again, neither walton nor johnson ever served in the military, but they have no problem letting listeners think they did.

Yes, I hate all three Johnson character voices and the ignorance that emanates from his mouth.

Your comment about w&j stealing women is absurd because if you've ever seen them, you'd know they could only do that through hypnosis.
its time w (your name) said:
I worked w/ a female (a liberal, in fact) who said they were quite wonderful to work with.
Well, I've worked with a few dozen radio women (some conservative, in fact) who said just the opposite. I would be happy to read her comments should she ever choose to post them, and speak for herself.

If anyone said they were wonderful to work with, I would have to believe they meant it's because they leave the building by 10:15! ;D

So sayeth Rex.

I have some good observations listed below about Rex and his personal problems with Walton & Johnson...

1. Actually listen to the show. They constantly bash Bush, not support him. They also talk about the immigration problem pretty regularly. Basically, they talk about the things on the air out in the open that most people talk about behind closed doors or in a noisy room. When I read your statements about the topics they discuss, all I read is jealousy.

2. Johnson's three voices. How many radio shows, locally or across the nation, do you hear where the dj's do more than one voice. Other than the ones that did the Roy D. Mercer skit, no one to my knowledge. Believe me, if anyone had a problem with the redneck, gay or black voices he does, those people would have already protested and had him stopped, banned or fired from radio. Again, I figure you are one of the three and that is why your sooooooooo affended.

3. Walton tells it like it is. He speaks his mind and does a pretty good job of it. Sounds like to me again your jealous of him and all he talks and stands for.

4. As far as the stations they work for. When was the last time they bashed the station, management or owners on the air? The only thing I ever hear them bash about is the equipment. I listen to these guys everyday. If management wanted them gone, I sure they would have do bought out their contracts or just took them off the air and paid them like 103.7 did outlaw dave.

Which would people rather listen to? Two guys that say like it is. Speak the publics opinions and thoughts. Entertain with nurmerous voices and funny recorded skits. Or would you rather listen to a morning show that the cast does is laugh and giggle for four hours like the Bob & Tom show? I'm sure I know your answer, so save the typing.

Rex, either turn the radio knob or put ear plugs in. Either way, stop hee hawing like a jackazz.

So Sayeth Stone_Cold_Crazy ;D :D

I have to admit Rex, you do seem to take this fairly personal. In fact, I don't see a post of yours that doesn't involve bashing W&J. I am a casual fan of the show and have been for around 15 years now. I wouldn't say I live and breathe on their every word, but I do listen at times. You, on the other hand, seem almost obsessed with bad-mouthing their show. In fact, if I had to guess at your identity, I would have only one guess: Mr. Hooks.

My point being that if you don't like them, that is most definitely your opinion and you are entitled to it. I don't even mind your incessant ramblings on the matter on this board. I do think the personal attacks realted to the intelligence of people debating you are a bit much, however. I don't mind a good debate at all. However, if for some reason you choose to take the same approach with me, please know that I have the same (if not a higher) education level as what you imply you have. As a result, I won't engage you on a level that I feel is beneath me.

Why would Rod Ryan come on here to trash W&J? According to the last ratings book as well as all of the people meter numbers he kills them in every single demo.. hell, the homeless guy at the corner of 59 and Harwin has a larger audience than W&J... maybe it's him coming on here to trash them.

KIOL needs new management and a new morning show.

Go back and read what I said. Yes, they speak out now, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN IN AMERICA OVER THE ISSUE OF IMMIGRATION.

Again, you've made my point. No other radio show in America features a white man doing a black voice as a character.

I thought the controversy over the voices years ago was the reason they were fired from New York after about 5 weeks.
Jealous--hardly. Morally outraged over their actions and what I perceive as incompetent and corrupt radio management, YES.
Hee Haw--that's what the Billy Ed character voice sounds like.

Well, that's what walton & johnson do on-air all the time. Walton often talks about how brilliant they are. They want to be thought of as "gawds". They even say, "worship us". They can dish out insults but they can't take it. :'(

I never tell people in my responses to shut up or quit posting. :-X
I have a good laugh when I see someone demanding to know my race or identity. Keep guessing. Keep responding. I'll keep writing.
If my responses are too lengthy for you, try using the "scroll down" feature on your keyboard or mouse.

Leave it to Fo-Fo to put things into perspective. Hell, the homeless guy at the corner of 59 has a larger audience than the whole station, let alone W&J. Maybe Pat Fant should stand on that corner with a homemade sign saying "Will program for food."

I don't really listen to the show, but just to keep things accurate;

Walton and Johnson are in the top ten in terms of ratings for men 18+, and top five if you take income levels into account...ahead of The Buzz. Not bad for a small station with no ratings anywhere else.

Rod Ryan is a general market show, targeted towards females just as much as males. W&J targets men.

Again, I don't really listen to the show, just trying to keep the facts straight.
