WALX in Selma Is Moving

For reasons unknown to me, WALX in Selma is moving. The tower, transmitter and City of License are moving to Orrville. They will continue to broadcast with 50,000 watts of power, once the move is complete.I can't get them too well, on most radios, due to Dixie 100 bleeding in. This station's tower and transmitter are moving to the east, from what I have noticed, over the past few months.Anyway, once Lazer 101 does move, hope that Dixie will no longer bleed in, on my boombox. Here is the link to this info: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?call=WALX&service=FMR.D.P. <><

WALX's move to Orrville probably is connected with the proposed rulemaking for WJAM (which is currently licensed to Orrville) to move its city of license to Shorter and increase from class A to C3. Seems like this is the second move for WJAM; wasn't WJAM originally licensed to Marion on a different frequency years ago? Here's the link to the FCC website with the proposed rulemakings for WJAM:http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?state=AL&call=WJAM&city=&arn=&serv=&vac=&freq=0.0&fre2=107.9&facid=&class=&dkt=&list=1&dist=&dlat2=&mlat2=&slat2=&NS=N&dlon2=&mlon2=&slon2=&EW=W&size=9*************************************************There'll be no radio in Heaven. Will you be there?www.PassTheWord.net

well I say "proposed". looks as though it's already been approved. :)*************************************************There'll be no radio in Heaven. Will you be there?www.PassTheWord.net[/quote]

Maybe it's not in the plans, but I could see WALX becoming a Montgomery station in the future. Since the city grade signal reaches the western portions of the capitol city, it's not too far of a stretch for it to happen.

Y'all forgot to mention one thing, WALX and WJAM are co owned.. by Paul Alexander........... Great South RFDC, Great South Wireless LLC, Brantley Broadcast Associates, Rams IV, Rams II, etc.......

You must mean the city of license is moving, or changing, rather. I doubt they'd want to move 100.9 any further from Montgomery. That, and Radio-Locator doesn't show any signal changes in WALX's CP map. I know these folks are stupid, but I don't think they're...never mind. ???Then again, you would know of any tower movements way before I would...Selma/Dallas County is two counties north of my physical location. WJAM's approved move to the Montgomery market would be the big news in all of this, though. I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I hope a big radio conglom pays them off for 107.9...no way the Alexanders' should run anything bigger than a toaster in a metered radio market.

That's the way it looks- just the COL is changing to Orrville. There are no changes for the xmtr location, according to the FCC website. WALX isn't going to be covering Montgomery, signal-wise, any better (or worse) than it is now.________________________Radio stations come and go.Does anything last forever?www.PassTheWord.net

To The X and All Reading,Selma and Dallas County are one thing. Selma is the county seat of Dallas County. Just wanted to share that with you. One thing I wanted to ask. With WALX moving to Orrville and WJAM possibly moving to Montgomery, will these stations switch their formats and will Roscoe Miller have to shut down his other Montgomery station, if WJAM does move.R.D.P.

When WJAM does finally move, it'll be interesting to see if they keep the same format. Montgomery has several urban formatted stations already. Since WJAM will be covering all of Montgomery and surrounding areas, yes, the translator currently on 107.9 would have to go "bye-bye". Does Montgomery have any other translators besides the one on 107.9 and the other two WAY-FM uses in the non-comm band?________________________Radio stations come and go.Does anything last forever?www.PassTheWord.net

Last time I visited Montgomery, they had the following translators:91.5 and 91.9 WAY FM104.9 Tiger Rock from Auburn107.1 Magic 96 from B-Ham (Was Experiencing Tech Problems)107.9 WKXN from Greenville This visit was a few weeks ago.R.D.P.

I actually knew that and was referring to both as a singular location in the state, but I can see how the slash I used could've warranted question marks. And yes, once the new 107.9 is built, say buh-bye to WKXN/WKXK's flea-powered presence in Montgomery.

Didn't "Killer Diller" Roscoe Miller lose his translator on 93.9 sometime ago? Those two flea powered signals showed up in the Montgomery Arbs constantly. What will Roscoe do now?

Yes he did, due to WQSI increasing its power. WQSI from Union Springs, has a moderate signal in Montgomery. The sound quality was great when I checked, a few weeks ago, in the Taylor Road area. I can sometiomes pick them up, here in Selma, when the conditions are just right. Concering his future, I have no idea, what he will do. Hope he will fish for a new spot on the dial, so that he won't be absent from Montgomery, for good.R.D.P. <><

The Reynolds folks are involved. I've long-since stopped trying to explain or understand anything they do. I could be real negative here...goodness knows I know from experience... but I'll just stop at "who knows".

Unless I have been drinking too much Mountain Dew, I still see the following happening, once WALX and WJAM have moved, to their new locations:WALX 100.9 (Hot AC) becoming WJAM 100.9 (The Touch Hits and Oldies)WJAM 107.9 (The Touch Hits and Oldies) becoming WALX 107.9 (Hot AC)That first change would make sense, since Selma and Orrville is majority Black in the population. However, if WJAM does switch over to Hot AC/Top 40, that may not do to well in the Gump, since Mix 103 and Y-102 already cater to the Top 40 and Hot AC need.
Now for a dream I have:
Maybe, Roscoe and his company can get their hands on 107.9, once the move has occured and relocate their station to this frequency and have more power to broadcast with.WKXM 107.9 FM (The Big Station) Shorter/Montgomery Alabama.I may be drinking too much Mountain Dew but Roscoe could get this station, if he were to offer the right price and Alexander was ready to sell it off to anyone that wanted it.R.D.P. <><

Drinking Too Much Dew

I'm drinking too much Dew. Roscoe wouldn't have to relocate to 107.9. Just realized he is already there. All he would have to do, is to buy out the tower and transmitter, that this station will be broadcasting from. Once he did that, his Montgomery station would be broadcasting with even more power and the best part, he wouldn't even have to relocate to a new frequency. :DSorry for the mistake I made. :- Glad I caught it, before anyone else did.R.D.P. <><
