WAMD is back on the air

WAMD 970 Aberdeen is back on the air, simulcasting the Christian talk format from WAVA-FM in the Washington, DC area. I'd guess this is a temporary move so that WAMD's license isn't revoked by the FCC for being off the air more than a year. Presumably the new owner has other ideas for a format once the pending sale goes through....

I wonder when Bill Parris will take over?

I certainly wish the new owner luck, but his idea is about 40 years too late.

WAMD is off the air, for now. Salem pulled out of camp March 1, I believe. The day they pulled out, they took the studio equipment and took it dark. From what I understand, the new owners will be in at some point later this month.

I've noticed the range for this station is somewhat odd. While taking a day trip up to the northern part of Harford County this past weekend, I noticed that exit 74 (MD-152) was about the limit for that signal to the west during the day. I was able to listen as far north as about the Darlington/Conowingo area without too much fade. While coming home after dark, I noticed that reception was a little spotty while coming south on US-1 with a little fade every now and again. Coming south on MD-24 the signal was fairly consistent until the Emmorton Road intersection just north of I-95. After that it was gone.

I can't say I ever listened to WAMD but remember their Help Wanted ads during the 60's.

"Announcers wanted, No experience necessary. Must have FCC First Class License and do sales." It was in the jobs section of Broadcasting Magazine every week. All I can say is it must have been quite the revolving door back then.

I was getting a weak signal from 970 during the mid-morning. Does anybody know that adventure is going?

Caught the station again today, playing some version of Top 40. Weak signal into Northern Delaware. Jingle near bottom of the hour seemed to be "Top 40 AMD".
