WAMD POWERS DOWN

Any comments on a plan by WAMD and WWDJ near New York have a deal to power up WWDJ (Salem) to 50kw during the day, while WAMD powers down to 300 watts days. From an FCC filing WAMD plans to move the day site to Kent County, Maryland between Galena and Betterton. A move of city of license could be good for residents of Kent County and lower Cecil County. Put WAMD together with WCTR (a daytimer) would give better full time coverage of this area sandwiched between Baltimore, Wilmington, Dover and Philly.

From a personal point of view, I would hate to see that happen. I live in Newark, Delaware and like to listen to WAMD during the weekends. Nice oldies playlist. I would never hear them if they moved to Galena, my old family hometown.

Unfortunately according to http://radio-locator.com/, this move seems to be a 'go'. The map for the tentative service area can be found here: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WAMD&service=AM&status=C&hours=D,
What I don't understand is why Salem doesn't bother to sell either WWDJ or WMCA and buy an FM in or around the Big Apple. An ideal exchange would be 970 for WFME. With Family Radio exchanging some of their FMs for AMs, Both parties might want to consider the swap. Another consideration might be for Salem to buy either 92.3 or 1050.

If they're planning on moving to Galena, why not move just a few miles up the road (FCC permitting) to Townsend or Middletown so the fastest growing area in Delaware (the M.O.T. area, where I live) can have a radio station to call its own?
