WAMD

What did they say when you called them?............
You DID call them (at least later) and ask, didn't you? ;)

Maybe they had a major transmitter failure, or a power outage (those are both nearly preventable with backup gear), or maybe they had a reason to power down, such as antenna problems (rarely preventable, except at a prohibitive cost for most stations).

well with the way that station is run and knowing whos running it, there wasn't any sense in calling becuase no one was home! They have (or had) a back up transmitter and they did have a generator at one time but.......

By the way, I listened between 8 and 9 AM today 5/9 and the only breaks I heard was one for movie news and a local liner, no spots and probably nobody home. I'm glad that they're holding up their end of the deal in providing LOCAL information as they said they would do when the station came back on the air.

WAMD Aberdeen was off the air ALL DAY Saturday 5/5. What a FINE operation!

I always wondered if this station was still on the air. Back in the 60's and 70's it was a pretty good operation.
The station was operated by a husband and wife back then I believe.
They were always hiring the same small ad in Broadcasting Magazine every week. They wanted you to have everything. FCC First phone, announcing, sales, AND no experience required. Great first job.

Both WAMD and WYRE were good stations in the 60's. Low power but good signals. And fun to listen to.

I worked at WAMD for a few months in 1973. They were Top 40 at the time. The owners name was Larry Allen. I worked mid days. The night jock and I would frequent a bar called The Eagles Nest in the afternoon. Aaah..to be young and foolish!
