WAMO FM Has New Morning Show

Post Gazette nor PBRTV have picked it up yet but WAMO FM has comedian Steve Harvey as a syndicated morning show now. I don't listen to WAMO FM but if you do I am sure you know that by now.

I don't listen to WAMO FM but if you do I am sure you know that by now.

And if you don't listen to WAMO-FM, and aren't someone who hangs out in radio discussion forums or otherwise follows radio much more closely than the people WAMO-FM wants to attract as new listeners, you won't know that at all.

Oh, yes, WAMO sucks.

Uh huh.

Is that a fact? Or your opinion?

And when does study hall end?

I tell you what Radio Realist you are really getting to me. All I do is put up a little thing to let people know about the changes at WAMO and you have to be a smart aleck. I was just stating something for others incase they wanted to know. You think it is funny to say ignorant things all the time so you can get a cheap laugh. Go ahead and laugh at me Radio Realist. You can even laugh at me all you want, me being young, not knowing much about the radio business as you. Why don’t you post up in the bulletin that you pray something bad happens to me? What, don't you have the guts Realist? Why not, show the people how funny and sarcastic you are, show us your brilliance! Go Ahead Realist, let’s show the world how clever you are, how you are better you are at everyone common Radio Realist, let’s laugh!

This is a discussion forum. This is where people who are interested in radio discuss radio. That means a back-and-forth exchange of opinions. When someone posts something in here, it's so that people can discuss it, can talk about the pros and cons of the thing. It's so that people can speculate about the impact of the thing. This is not a venue for simply posting news bulletins.

Here is what you said:

How many times did you directly mention me despite I NOT giving my views about WAMO on the post, uh, twice?

If I were to have said in the post that WAMO FM sucked I can see why you can make a comment about me. However, I just stated a fact that Eric or Post Gazette didn't get to yet incase others wanted to know and open it up for discussion.

And Radio Realist, since this is a Radio Discussion Board, I think think I am allowed to talk about radio.

Oh good God! Grow up!

I was using "you" in the abstract sense because I thought it would sound pretentious to say "And if one doesn't listen to WAMO-FM, and aren't someone who hangs out in radio discussion forums or otherwise follows radio much more closely than the people WAMO-FM wants to attract as new listeners, one wouldn't know that at all."

Maybe you should stick to the Deep Space Nine forums until you develop a thicker skin.

How many stations nationwide carry the Steve Harvey morning show? If I recall this might be the first time WAMO has had a syndicated morning show. In my opinion, this could be a good move on WAMO's part, which should bring in good ratings. I wonder if Angie from the former WAMO show is still with the station?

I half agree. I think it's a very good move. I think it could bring in outstanding ratings, if they aggressively promote it. If they keep it a secret or rely on word-of-mouth, then it's a waste of time.

Steve Harvey is a very funny guy, and doesn't only appeal to the "urban" audience. With a good promotion push, WAMO-FM could attract listeners who haven't tuned into that station since Ken "Brother Love" Reese was on.

I stand corrected. Regardless of his last name, his stint as "Brother Love" was one of the best things to ever happen to Pittsburgh Radio. No list of great Pittsburgh radio people is complete without his name on it.

I'll tell you what, that would make an interesting topic here. I know it's been tried at the nostalgia board, but maybe here might give a different flavor (not neccesarily better or worse, just different).

Who are the great Pittsburgh radio people?

Who are the great Pittsburgh radio people?

I'm glad you asked! Here's a SHORT list:

Porky Chedwick (duh), Jim Quinn, Joe Fenn, Brother Matt, Jack Bogut, Chris DeCarlo, Bob Tracey, Jim Cunningham, Sara Lockard, and Jimmy Roach. If I left anyone out, I said this was a SHORT list!

If I left anyone out, I said this was a SHORT list!

You left out some really important ones, though. Like Frank Conrad, Rege Cordic, and Joe Tucker.

John Gibbs, John Rook, Mike McCormick

Bob Wilson, Gene Romano

Anderson Little, Bev Smith

Mad Mike, WT Koltek and all the WYEP originators

Tony Renda

Kopler, Kmetz, James, Levine, Pintek, Boylan

Jim Merkel, Gary Dickson

Clarke Ingram

It cracks me up how so many people include good radio people in a list of "greats" just because their careers were recent enough that they heard them on the air. What about the people who made radio happen in the first place?

What about:

Leo Rosenberg
William Thomas
John Frazier
R.S. McClelland
Harold W. Arlin
"Uncle Ed" Schaughency
Buzz Aston
Bill Hinds
Bill Steinbach
Beckley Smith
Johnny Boyer
Baron Elliott
Ed Price
Bill Brant
Jonathon Rhodes
Sal Patitucci

Too many of you seem to think that radio began in the late 1950's, and that the "golden age" of Top 40 is the earliest history of broadcasting. Radio was around for three whole decades before television killed it and the corpse was turned into wall-to-wall DJ's.

Hold on there, Realist. I don't agree with that. Now I have heard of a few people on your list. Four of them, to be exact. I had the privilege of working with Ed Price at WEZE and Sal Patitucci worked under me when I managed WKPA. My list, as I said was a short one, but the majority I hadn't heard of. My only excuse for that is my age (37), so these people may have been a little before my time. I will agree that not many people remember program-oriented radio like NBC was in its early history, and those who do remember it aren't computer savvy enough to join this board.

And one of us likes to THINK that radio should go back to BEFORE the late 1950s.

What's more laughable--doing the same thing that's worked for 45 years? Or doing something that died 45 years ago?

That's positively laughable.
