Pittsburgh Station Sued In Nightclub Shooting Case
SHERIDAN Urban WAMO-F/PITTSBURGH has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit by the victim of a 2006 nightclub shooting.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/search/s_532871.html

The PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW reports that DAVINA WILSON of MONROEVILLE, PA, who was shot on JULY 31, 2006 at TOUCH nightclub in PITTSBURGH's STRIP DISTRICT, is suing the club, its owner MMM CORP., its President THOMAS JAYSON, and the station, which was broadcasting live from the club that night, alleging that security at the club was lax. The plaintiff was one of eight people shot when a gunman opened fire inside the club

Hmmm. I wonder how many Pittsburgh stations will pull all night club appearances because of this?

Why would they do that? It wasn't WAMO's fault. They just happened to be there that night. Stations aren't responsible for security at remotes.

Thanks, I was just going to ask how much of that the station is really responsible for.

From what I understand, when civil suits are filed, it's common practice to sue everybody involved and then let the Courts decide who is liable for what. The Courts may in fact, find that WAMO has no liability whatsoever and is left off the hook totally, or it may find they they were X% liable, and is responsible for X% of the money owed.

It was a nightclub and the patron PAID to get in. The station is not responsible for security since they do not own the building, they are only hired to be there and promote someone's business. It's not the station's fault the patron decided to attend the club that night is it? What's next, I got a headache from listening to a song they played too much and now I need money to make it better?

The woman is going to say in court that should would not have been there if she hadn't heard about it on the radio and she'd probably be telling the truth.

She'll probably say that (ordinarily, that's why clubs want stations to be there), but it's still not WAMO's fault for what happened. If WKST had been there instead, she'd be suing them.

Oh, in no way do I think the station should be named, all I'm saying is with the siouxing happy people now, how many radio stations will just say forget it and not want to even bother being involved. Wasn't WHJY named in the nightclub incident in Providence a couple of years ago?
Makes me sick.

This is nothing new. Has anyone forgotten about all the violence that happened at Donzi's back during the 80's and 90's, when B94, Energy 105, and Mix Jamz used to do their appearances there? Thorp, Reed and Armstrong make lots of money from the Pittsburgh radio business, and I'm sure they're already on retainer now. If the station is found to be liable to even a small percentage, they'll settle it out of court.

ahhhh....the legal doctrine of "deep pockets" strikes again!
