WAMO

An interesting development on this front last week...

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh felt compelled to issue a public statement DENYING that they were purchasing WAMO.

http://www.pittsburghcatholic.org/newsarticles_more.phtml?id=2548

They even went so far as to point out that the prospective owners all lived in the Diocese of
Greensburg! Clearly they are very sensitive to any negative friction that this may be causing
in the community.

Wonder what they (whoever they might be) will do to WAMO once they got all the proceeds from Friday Night Bingo pumped into buying the station.

My Guess is it becomes The Fish (right!)

I could be wrong because I really do not follow Christian radio , but I thought the "Fish" was a brand owned by Salem Broadcasting. Of course the Catholics could sell the station to Salem---------? On that note, could Air America rebrand as the "Dolphin"?

I was thinking "The Donkey".

I thought there were some non-Salem O&O's that also used The Fish name and format.

WORD-FM primarily runs paid, evangelical programs.
WAMO, or whatever it becomes, will be all-Catholic.
98.3 K-LOVE will play contemporary Christian music.

I see no reason why these stations cannot coexist.

WAMO-FM filed to modify the license for 106.7 from commercial to non commercial educational license on July 10.

BMLED-20090709ANU.

It's still sitting in "accepted for filing" mode with the FCC.

Sure they all can exist. However, Tampa doesn't even have a religious station on the commercial part of the FM band. They are all below 92.1 and can all be avoided easily. They don't even get scanned and I can pretend they don't exist. Luckily there is still WRCT, WQED, WYEP, WDUQ ( sort of with reserKenye Westvations), and 92.1 from Pitt. We have Satan's music on the X (why the "X"?) so the whatever's are still outnumbered. This is a battle for the soul of the radio band between fundamentalists and those pursuing the secular truth. This a major move in mind control. Or not.

I know a lot of otherwise bright people who really like "Spirit FM" in Tampa. The Christian music sounds like bubblegum rock and what used to be "Bright AC" . It sounds light and very easy to listen to if one forgets that it is part of a neferious plot to suck us all into a cult like trance where Willie Nelson and Kanye West
never get any airplay. Once one accepts Delilah, it is a slippery slop to liking these "Christian" AC stations. Scary stuff.

huh ??? "Satan's music" ??? care to explain that comment?

Because it's called THE " X" . What would SAAAAAAtan call a station ? Maybe WISH 100 or 3WS cause it's all code. (Horrible laugh in echo chamber)

This is quite sad to hear about WAMO's demise. It's even more puzzling after all the effort and money spent buying and simulcasting 107.1 for those years and then moving 106.7's tower to Wexford. I'd love to say another station would stand up and move to urban/hip-hop, but I fear the only signal to even consider that just went satellite Contemp. Christian.

But, I think the biggest thing people are missing about the sales of 106.7 and 98.3 is that there is that little interest in Pittsburgh radio right now. Five or so years ago, surely some other megacorp would have snapped both up in a heartbeat. Now, religious non-profits are buying and converting TWO major market FM stations. This is a sign of the times. Unfortunate for listeners, employees and lovers of commercial radio.

I think it sucks . Combine these format changes to what is already on WORD and WPGB and I'd call it a right-wing take over of the FM band. Guess I'm paranoid. :(

Yeah, you are.

Oh no- THE CHRISTIANS!!!!!!!!!

You certainly can't refer to the hate that Beck & Savage dispense on 104.7 as any form of "Christianity"
