As a White Sox fan before that ever happened, I'm still waiting for that memory to go away. The item that Steve Dahl is going to reflect on it on his show reminds me of why I never forgave him, even though I understand it wasn't his fault individually that it all went down the way it did.
Dahl has somehow managed to carry on as if all is forgiven and forgotten, to the point of incorporating sports talk into his show, and being "welcome" at the Sox games, even after all the damage from that fateful night in 1979.
That night drove the dagger through Bill Veeck's ownership of the team. Granted, the dawn of free agency was the biggest factor, but it was around 18 months after that when he sold the Sox to Einhorn, Reinsdorf & company. When we went from a 12 game ticket package under Veeck being granted "season ticket" rights and a baseball oriented atmosphere to "golden boxes", being asked to pay to watch the games on cable with pitiful announcing (still wondering what Horrible-son has on Reinsdorf), to changing uniforms, and every break from the tradition of the Sox and baseball that Reinsdorf could dream up.
If it were up to me to 'remember' Disco Demolition Night, people would bring their old WLUP memorabilia and Steve Dahl records and CD's to his studio tonight and blow them up.
