how its done

You forgot the next paragraph:

"Of course, after we're sold very soon (to Emmis, Entercom or whomever), God only knows what the next owner's commitment to Oldies is, especially the old approach to Oldies we're taking because it's cheap and convenient. But, hey, please send your stuff along anyway and keep your fingers crossed you don't lose your job in six months or so".

(I always vote for full disclosure)

If it's Cumulus taking over ABC, I bet it stays oldies.
______________

Re: how its done

Cheap and convenient would mean going with the hodge podge Jack format where there are no jocks, no local involvement and no programming research.

And where is it etched in stone Jack will have no jocks? That announcement has never been made.

(BTW- using phrases like "hodge podge" and "mish-mash" gives you away as an "I don't get it so I hate it" bitter beer face joke).

ABC

no chance. Just bought Susquehanna. Bet on Emmis or Entercom to buy ABC.

Cumulus can't even handle what they already have- Susquehanna will be a bigger drain on them. It would be a stunner if they pulled off getting ABC (especially such a small-market mentality buying a bunch of major market properties).

Re: ABC

I bet you don't like Cumulus because they'll probably dump the hodge podge Jack format that some of Susquehanna's stations have.

As opposed to satellite-delivered Scott Shannon voicetracked 24/7 playing songs he personally likes?

I read that he originally didn't want to play any early 70s or Petula Clark. Because listeners requested these so much, they play both.
______________

Well, it will be interesting to see what Cumulus does to these larger market stations. I enjoy the stations they own in the area I live.

P.S. I hope Clear Channel isn't thinking about buying ABC. God help us if that happens.

Thats a big IF. If they did, I think there would be a good chance of that happening. But these circumstances aren't likely.

Re: ABC

It would be a ton better to see Clear Channel buy ABC than Cumulus. They are a rag-tag company that's next to be investigated for payola. Most of their stations are in mid-to-small markets and their mentality and approach is just that. You should hear what some of the Susquehanna people are saying about their impending sale to Cumulus- they're jumping ship left and right in the next 6 months.

ABC has some fine properties- a REAL broadcast company like CC, Entercom or Emmis would be great.

I concur with the Cat. Jack (or Bob, I can't remember which, maybe both) in Canada has jocks. It's possible to do so, but will be hard in today's environment to make it work because we have a mistaken "less is more" attitude by jocks and PDs when it comes to doing actual *work* in the studio.

Jack has the potential to kill once and for all the small (< 300 song) playlist in our beloved formats (exclude, CHR). That will help everyone, if done right.

You hear that KRTH?

CC buys ABC. CC has Lujack and company under contract. CC moves Real Oldies type format to 94.7 FM--or better yet, moves talk to the FM side and Oldies to the AM. That would be the ONLY positive in the situation.
