Just to update, most of the old TALK 103/WRIX FM format has been switched to WANS 1280 AM. They had been all ESPN Radio and local Sports. I do now here LOCAL news and Weather on WANS! That hadn`t happened in a LONG time. They even have live National news live on the hour. Nights has ESPN Radio and they carry the Mike and Mike show from New York in the mornings.........

I wonder why the morning show and the WYFF newscasts didn't move to WANS-AM. Seems to me those should have moved with everything else...just let the satellite run, IMO.

you must remember that the Morning Show has a VERY strong local following. It was "The Matt and Bev Show" for many years. That Morning Show has many of the same advertisers and guests that it has had since the station signed on iJuly of 1977. I think that WRIX didn`t want to rock the boat. It is very much a hertiage FM around the Anderson area now after being on fopr so many years. I think that the new talk programming will help WANS. I hear more local news and sports on there than I have in years. Remember that WRIX-FM 103 has quite a few long lasting shows on there. Weekdays at 6:30-The Phil Kornbult Show has been airing until 8:00 for many years. The live, local Sports Talk Show weeknights from 8-10pm has also been a fixture on WRIX since the early 1980`s. So has the Saturday Morning live "Southern Woods and Water" show that is a live local cll in at 6:00 AM! Remember, that WRIX started off like this in 1977! Thaey had these same local shows and were automated Top 40 for the first few years until they switched to Classic Country in 1982. The WYFF 6am/6pm Newscasts have been airing in this same timeslot since at least 1983!

I am in Anderson today and have listened to both 1230 WAIM and 1280 WANS. While I have no opinion on the programming changes discussed here, I do have an observation that both the AM Stations are lacking in technical quality. There's not much on the high end and both signals sound rather bassy. Perhaps audio processing is older generation, but something is lacking on the quality side.

I will say that WAIM-AM 1230 has put in alot of money in recent years for techinal improvements. They had a very old transmitter and it now carries alot further and sounds alot better than before. They are a work in progress. WANS-AM 1280 had an all new transmitter, tower, studios installed on Powell road back in 1987 when it still a part of WANS-FM 107.3. The signal is still very strong and can be picked up all over the Upstate! I remember back in the mid 1980`s before they changes the transmitter, you couldn`t hardly pick them up in Anderson at night. Both WAIM and WANS are making good changes and are increasing their listenership! Anderson is proud to have them on the air! WAIM has a very loyal following. WANS-AM 1280 has the talk format that was just switched from WRIX-FM 103.1. WANS will do quite well in Anderson....

I was under the impression that WRIX AM was a gospel station of some sort, I am thinking maybe Southern Gospel.
