It comes down to if "they" want you - you are in and if they don't - you are out. This isn't surprising. Just look at where the cluster is. With the exception of WOKV, there aren't many bright spots.
Call this a defense of Cat if you'd like but when corporate dictates that the on air talent should be robots with a heartbeat, what can anyone expect? If you look at the other post someone brought up listing the new guys in town in AM drive, without doubt the replacements are not faring as well what preceeded them. And without even talking ratings, they are simply not as good as what existed before. And perhaps they are not as good because of the straight jacket environment. You can't have it both ways.
Perhaps the final blow revolves around the performance of WAPE. It's entirely possible now that KISS can forge ahead in total audience in the next book.
Isn't it obvious that listeners are just crying out for some good AM drive shows? At any rate, Cat should take delight in knowing he lasted a lot longer than most in that position.
