WAPE's CAT THOMAS GONE?

Any truth to this?

From All Access:

SHOCKER! After 12 years at COX Top 40 WAPE/JACKSONVILLE, OM/PD CAT THOMAS is no longer with the company. [EDIT]

It comes down to if "they" want you - you are in and if they don't - you are out. This isn't surprising. Just look at where the cluster is. With the exception of WOKV, there aren't many bright spots.

Call this a defense of Cat if you'd like but when corporate dictates that the on air talent should be robots with a heartbeat, what can anyone expect? If you look at the other post someone brought up listing the new guys in town in AM drive, without doubt the replacements are not faring as well what preceeded them. And without even talking ratings, they are simply not as good as what existed before. And perhaps they are not as good because of the straight jacket environment. You can't have it both ways.

Perhaps the final blow revolves around the performance of WAPE. It's entirely possible now that KISS can forge ahead in total audience in the next book.

Isn't it obvious that listeners are just crying out for some good AM drive shows? At any rate, Cat should take delight in knowing he lasted a lot longer than most in that position.

Cat Thomas had been treading water at Cox for the last two or 3 years. He's lucky he lasted as long as he did. He was programming a station who's demo he himself was too old for. I'm not saying his age had anything to do with it. The problem is you have jerks like Bob Neil at Cox/Atlanta dictating every little move they make. Until the Cox people wake up and realize Bob is the cause of their stations in Jacksonville losing revenue and ratings those stations will have 2 shares 12 plus a year from now and beyond.

Bob Neil should just fire all the PDs and do it all himself. He wont let a PD have one inch of freedom of anything...unless he has signed a written order authorizing such move. The guy is a total control freak and the stations all sound the same - no talk or personality and about 150 songs that are "researched" whenever they can afford it. Talk about lousy radio.

Chase Daniels the WAPE afternoon drive jock is overseeing things but the same people who have been passing down edicts for the last 3 years at Cox/Jax are still doing it ..that being Cox/Atlanta. That's a shocker. The fact Cox/Jacksonville calls all their stations a "cluster" is ironic. They're missing a word.
