WAPI-FM Begins at 12:01 am Monday

Those folks on the "Save Live 100.5" group aren't as "enthusiastic" about the upcoming change. Many of them think the "world is about to come to an end". ::)

I'm assuming Citadel is changing the calls of the station to WAPI-FM? How long has it been since there has been a "WAPI-FM"...15 yrs maybe? Can't remember exactly when it was 94.5 dropped the calls and and became WMXQ "Mix 94.5"...

The stereo pilot is already off and the RDS says WAPI 100.

The Facebook people are in shock. They claim over 20,000 members (who knows how many are actually in the rated metro area) and they are concerned that only about 4,000 have signed their petition.

They really don't get it. This is exactly why Live failed. Too much hat and not enough cattle.

I think the calls were changed in April 1994. That was the year I graduated high school and don't recall ever listening to the station as WAPI (I 95?) anytime before that. It must have really fallen off the map by then.

I saw a discussion on al.com about this.... Some ditz posted "But I bought the albums!" as if that made any difference to the local advertisers. :D

i was one of them....and i won't give up on the AAA format - ever. I'm one of it's biggest fans. Last song was "Time to move on" - from Tom Petty. I hope to see this format return - but i fear it will be after corporate radio goes completely bankrupt.

Now for my biggest question - why wait a week after the annoucement came out? To let the "uprising" die down?

I enjoyed listening for another week - I honestly didn't listen a lot before - i was more of a 92zew, lightning 100, dave fm fan - but it was a unique mix. Not as much regish as i thought it would be...but the fact remains, had 100.5 come in better here in Dullman, i would have listened more. And it was my #1 preset.

RIP Live 100.5....AAA will return another day soon.

The myth, the legend, the world famous "News Talk 100 WAPI" has made the revoultion to the airwaves in oh so glorious mono. It sure helped out the signal up in here in CullCo.

Let the protesting at the doors begin ;D

Wonder how many of 'em ever listened before they got the tweet to "help save Live 100.5"? I remember years ago how obnoxious AOL users were, like they were the only ones that mattered on the Internet. Facebook is the new AOL. It's really just the "high school social scene" of the World Wide Web, Grow up, people.

Came in pretty good from 160 in BlountCo down 65 to Bham. I'm proud of the Talk guys.... They handled the wah-wah callers with a certain amount of flair. :p

100.5 is now IDing as "WAPI-FM, Helena", although the FCC database still shows the calls as WWMM (both the record itself and the accompanying call sign page). The calls might have already been changed, though, and just hasn't been updated in the database yet.

I couldn't pick up 100.5 at all thanks to 100.3 The River, so my only listening time was on their website. Ironically, I had the same issue five years ago, except 100.5 was The X and 100.3 was WLAY back then. I suspect 100.5's location prevented Live's ratings to grow, much how it helped to kill off X's ratings. I doubt the talk format will do much better on 100.5 given the history of that frequency.

If Live was a total reborn of The X (pre-Citadel) instead of being a spin-off, then I would have been more disappointed over the format change. Like I've said earlier, this kind of "new rock" or AAA isn't my cup of tea.

The 100.5 transmitter is located in Vance, Alabama. They have turned off the stereo pilot, so this will help some. They are simulcasting on 1070 AM, so where the FM is weak, the AM is the strongest. Where the AM is weak in the South part of town, the FM is the strongest.

100.5 puts in a city grade over Tuscaloosa as well. I wonder if they will take advantage of sales opportunity in that market.

I believe they are/will be. I'm noticing they've got some new advertisers already. The FM is also putting out a better signal than the AM did in BlountCo and down into St. Clair co. Driving from Hayden to Pell City, there was minor static once I got to Cleveland, the occasional pop. The only place it was truly unlistenable was in Ashville coming around the court house square but the signal cleaned up again when I got around the corner back on 231 proper again.

I was surprised to see them move Boortz from his midday slot to nights. I understand he had decent ratings (and was live) where he was.

Funny, I heard that exact same sentiment on Leo Laporte's tech podcast the other day. It seems to be true. People like my mother who are completely tech illiterate love Facebook. She still uses AOL every day, too. ;)

Boortz was delayed an hour in his original slot. And it was the three hour (including his Information Overload) show. He's been cut to 2 hours now. But hey, I don't have to listen to the whiner Michael Savage now. ;D
