WAPT now 2 separate numbers?

I have rescanned on my indoor antenna each day to try to bring in WAPT 16 (ABC) as well as WDBD 40 (Fox) with no luck until today. I pulled a 14.1 which is 16.1 and a 21.2 which is 16.2 MeTV. I don't get it. I'm 49 miles South of Jackson, MS., & the antenna is supposed to pull in with 50-60 miles. It still pulls in WLBT 3, WJTV 12, PBS 17 & 29 and 35 WLOO as well as their subchannels they carry. Dumfounded.

WAPT's RF is 21.3 for ABC and 21.4 for Me-TV while WDBD's RF is 14.3. and 14.4, .5, etc. for their subchannels.

mississippi fan,

What device are you performing the rescan on? Is it a TV, a tuner box, a DVR, etc?

Are there other TV's or devices in your house that you have connected to the antenna, in addition to the one you're having difficulty picking up WAPT 16 and WDBD 40?

I live near the Reservoir, 24-26 miles from the towers in South Jackson/Raymond. I just rescanned for channels on my 2009 32 in Sharp HDTV. All of the subchannels for 3, 12, 16, 29, 35 and 40 are being properly mapped in the channel list, so the PSIP channel information is correct at the station.

If you can pick up WMPN 29, you ought to be able to pick up 16 and 40. Fun fact, 3, 35 and 40 are all on the same physical tower with each transmit antenna at a different height on the tower.

Have you entered your street address into Antenna Signal Prediction yet? This site can assess how well stations should come in at your location and accounts for changes in terrain between you and the towers. What colors does it show for each of the stations in question? Based on your information, it sounds like you're somewhere close to Brookhaven.

Without knowing more, I would guess that the tuning device you're using to pick up the stations is going bad, you have a glitch in the coax wiring or the antenna itself has a problem. Another thing to check is to make sure there is no other object made of metal any closer than six feet to the antenna (other than the mast or mounting bracket for the antenna of course). This can cause bad multipath interference.

After checking, the antennaweb site is not showing any channels for the following test addresses, which is incorrect.
200 first street, bude, ms 39630
600 brookway blvd, brookhaven, ms 39601

Both should show PBS 17 in bude.

tvfool.com indicates that at both of these addresses, none of the Jackson stations are line of sight (LOS). Depending on the channel, it looks like there is likely either 1 diffraction or 2 diffractions for the signal to get to you. Diffraction is when the Tv signal is obstructed by something in the way , like hills , mountains , tall buildings.

I checked another site, rabbitears.info, and used their search for the brookhaven address. It shows the Jackson stations between 42-49 miles away. It reports that the location can get only a Fair signal on them, which usually indicates the need for an outdoor antenna.

I am actually surprised you are pulling in anything other than PBS 17 with an indoor antenna. Although the indoor antenna says it has a range of 50-60 miles, it doesn't mean than everyone will pull in stations at that range. I assume that the indoor antenna has an amplifier on it and that you have the antenna in a window that faces north and aimed precisely to the stations. Chances are that 16 and 40 are just barely too weak, even with the amplifier, for the tuner to lock them in.

A day or two after I posted, I rescanned again & 16.1 & 16.2 came in fine. Sometimes 12 & its subchannels go digital but eventually clear up. No luck at all with 40 & its subchannels.
