Yes. I have heard WAPZ. It has been on the air for about two weeks now. The signal quality is good to excellent through out the river region ( central Alabama). Very little fade-out if any. The quality on home sets are also good to excellent. The quality of the broadcast could be improved (just taking an AM sounding broadcast and placing it on the FM band doesn't translate into a true FM sound..?). In fact, I'm not sure they are broadcasting in true stereo even though the stereo indicator light is on my receiver.
If WAPZ had promoted it's transition to FM for a week or two and changed something about its lineup, I believe they would have picked up more listeners (and thus a higher Arbitron rating the next time around).
Just getting onto the FM band at the flip of a switch somehow cheapens the transition. It should have been billed as a "new frequency" with "new programming".
They could still improve their lot by coming up with a new promotion.
