Wasn't it late summer 1981? As i recall, it was not that odd of a segue as Wacky was a rock-based CHR to begin with.

"Wacky 102" was originally a traditional AOR station in the mid to late 70's. It was automated most of the time, but they played the usual suspects for that period, Stones, Zeppelin, the Who, etc. Around 1980 or so they shifted to a rock leaning CHR format and changed their moniker to "102 The Wack." That format didn't even last a year. By 1981 they had gone back to AOR/rock, but changed their moniker to the present "Rock 102."

Seems like a long time with the same format in this day and age. How are they doing ratings wise?

WAQY has always been a solid station in the Springfield book, consistently in the top 5. I think they've had the same morning team (Bax and O'Brien) since 1994-95 or so.

Plus they were constantly beating Hartford's Classic Rock station WHCN.<P ID="signature">______________

What?

AQY beat HCN in Springfield.

HCN beat AQY in Hartford.
