"War of The World's" on Q107

The key word in radio today is "interactivity", something which GAP is doing an amazing job of with their VIP Program and Newsletters - getting the listeners involved, and letting them feel like they're "part of the family." Possibly one reccomendation that comes to mind (that would probably best be generationally suited for KAFX) is a finding a texting service, like Vibes that allows people to text in song requests, or play contests by texting. This could also help see what the most requested songs are at the end of each week. (And makes money, with sponsored "replies") aka - "Tnx for your request! Check out Connie's Car Lot.. blah dee blah."

Perhaps grab up a night at a local club and broadcast from there that night. You promote the club, the club promotes you.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Isn't 93.9 KBOG already doing Urban in Lufkin?

Also, isn't KOOI considered "Soft A/C"?

You are correct on both. Urban/ Hip hop has been tried here before and hasn't lasted longer than 6 months, so I don't think that this is the format that Luf/Nac needs. KOOI comes in clear all year round so that market is covered also.

What we have here already is probably all that will ever be here. I have only made the comments on this for my own wishes and dreams. I know that it will never happen. Maybe in 20 years when it won't matter to me at all will anything start to change. Luf/Nac is to small to do anything rash. The people around here really think that if it ain't broke don't fix it. They are also very tight with their money. I am happy of what live dj's that we do have becaus it might end up like the local ABC tv station (only local stuff during the week and simulcasting on the weekends out of tyler).

The economy is to fragile in this area right now with all the lay offs and closing of major industries for any media to start rocking any boats with anything right now. Keep what they are doing to insure that they can still bring us the entertainment that they do ( however good or bad or in between it may be).

We can sit and play radio executives all day long on what we would do if we run things but the simple fact is that we are not. They are going to do whatever it takes to get advertisers and the advertisers are the one that almost dictate what is on the radio. If they don't like the format of the station they won't advertise on them.

So if what they are doing now pays the bills and keeps the entertainment flowing, then something is being done somewhat right. We can always dream and wish but until the someone out there can come up with a nice chunk of change to give to the radio stations to make those changes that we wish and dream about, we will have to accept what we have and be thankful for it.

Awe come on now, don't be so down in the mouth... the sun will come out tomorrow. Tommorrow, tomorrow.... you get the idea.

The question was what would I do with a new station, not an existing station. I know the market in Nac-Lufkin is down right now, but I have seen that market thrive. It has been a great radio market, recently, I might add.

The statement "what is now will probably always be" is an accurate assessment, though. When I worked in the market, 10+ years ago, it was KFOX for the top-40 audience, KYKS and KJCS for country, News/Talk on KSFA, There was an oldies station and hot-a/c on KYBI, plus a spanish station and a hodge-podge on KRBA. Today, there is KFOX for the top-40 audience, KYKS and KJCS for country, News/Talk on KSFA, There is an oldies station and hot-a/c on KYBI, plus a spanish station and a hodge-podge on KRBA. Q107 is about the same now as it was then, save for the morning show changes.

I haven't heard of KBOG, though. When did they show up and where do they broadcast from?

Not trying to be down in the mouth, just realistic. There are actually to many stations here already, most of them voice tracked. If anything, I would like to see some of the stations go and that money go to pay the salaries of more live dj's. Then if there was still a demand for different stations, HD those stations.

As for KBOG, I first heard them about a month and a half ago. Don't know much about them. Did a search on them and the stations is owned by E-String Wireless, Ltd., broadcasting from lufkin. Never heard of them before. Maybe in with the yates studios.

I have not heard any spots on KBOB...are they on the streets selling it?

Again zero presence in the community...it's a no win situation.
