WARF to sports on Fri: Ohio Media Watch

For those of you who haven't heard; dumping a format that doesn't get ratings for one that doesn't
get ratings but gets billing in a good demo...?

http://www.ohiomediawatch.com

"It's the same old story. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back again,
then liberal talk radio station changes format after a tragic blimp accident..."

"Goodyear?"

"No, the worst..."
(Naked Gun...altered...)

it's on their site. radiofreeohio.com was down but radiofreeohio.org has it:

>>The end of the progressive format on 1350 is coming on Friday March 30th at 8:59am. Watch this space for more information.

Hey FCC, your decision in Sacramento, CA sucked, don't you see what's happening???

Another Stephanie Miller affiliate lost in Ohio, I'm truly pissed off...

I will try to talk about this on the Mike Malloy show, on 3-28-2007.

Are you paying attention, Nancy Pelosi, look what's happening in San Francisco!!!

I'm guessing "Ohio Majority Radio" is still drunk on that gubernatorial inauguration wine.

Or is still messing around in Columbus. If only their listeners were as open with their diaries as their (minimal) activists are with their...whatever they have.

Check out OMW's take on all this in their post ("it's about the entertainment", not "preaching to the choir";
he says Jones' Miller being cloned would be a better bet than AAR's hosts, plus the idea of getting
prog talk shows on the bigger/conservative stations. IF they'll take them...

>>The "future of liberal talk" may lie with hosts like Stephanie Miller and Envision Radio Networks' Leslie Marshall making their way on general market talk stations. It'll be an interesting ride, as one reason the folks at Air America Radio launched 24/7 liberal talk was that they didn't believe liberal talk would fit in on conservative talk radio schedules.

WARF explains more on their site:

>>Before the format switch to Progressive Talk, 1350am was an all sports station. In the Winter of 2005,(the last ratings period for the station as sports) 1350am had 17,000 weekly listeners. In the latest release of ratings, for the Fall of 06, WARF had 11,600 weekly listeners, and was on the decline

Perhaps the activists that keep said diares so close to their vests could pull out their checkbooks and buy one of the crappy Canton stations that puts some signal over Akron. At the rates they charge, how much could WCER be worth??? ??? ;D

Wow. I can't believe people are this quiet about it. I remember when this happened in Columbus, people were extremely upset. Why the difference in a more liberal part of the state?

Because the "people" who were upset in Columbus were liberal activists. It was not surprising that they were centered around Columbus, the state's political party capital.

There are fewer, if any, activists in Akron/Canton. That's who was listening--the hardcore party types. And even they tuned out in the thousands over the course of a year.
