They have done NOTHING to create a difference in what is already available. If you already enjoy this soft AC stuff you already have it in Aces. You cant tell me that dropping 70's out of the equation is gonna make so much a difference to the core base to create that difference.

It makes a big difference. The station is definitely different. You, who has given every sign that he's a 20 year-old male partisan of hard rock and nothing but, are simply not old enough or female enough to understand or even be able to notice it.

You can say, "I wanted hard rock," all you want and be fine. You are absolutely incorrect, however, to say that the station is not different or has done something "wrong."

A radio station that pleases women is a good idea. Their husbands and boyfriends will be listening
right beside them. A station for sinlge men gets lousy ratings and has low sales. Single guys
just don't buy much for themselves. Poor response to ads. Sorry guys! If you are single,
you are nobody's target.

Heee Heee Ha ha.... Thats rich. I am FARRR from 20, but thank you, it's just a need not filled in the market and what else would be put in there was the question.

Women are good, oh AND Loyal! The station is not that different, not enough for the difference, not enough to win their loyality, and as I said... The tale of the tape is explained in time, I bet I'm right and I bet your wrong.... Next year will be "Here comes Santa Claus here comes Santa Claus right down Shadeland Avenue". If that long.

So what your saying is, no beer is bought, no cars, motorcycles, houses, concerts, college educations, no jewelry for the fifth soon to be x-fiance, no trips to Vegas, no bar surfing for chicks, no job hunting is done by these single men, no watches, no sunglasses, no mothers day gifts, no valentines, no.......oh, forget it. You are absolutley right. That's why this format is dead in all the top markets.....NOT! Thats why cd sales suck and mp3 downloads are unsuccessful, yep, that do nothing worthless single male group....LOL. The group that buys out OzzFest each and every year (except for the farce last year)... No interest in music equipment, stereo sales is lagging of course. Oh and heck... who needs new laptops and plasmas and and and and and the BW3 hot wings on football nights, Pacers tix, Colts games, aahhhh yep. Single male men buy nothing except toys, and more toys.

Oh and whats the FASTEST growing fashion conscious group in the country, spending more and more money on clothes and grooming products? Ask Maxim magazine, they'll tell you its NOT women! Who is the largest buying group for Lacrosse.... Not women, have you priced that stuff.... Single men 18 to 34.

Ah never mind...... ((Snicker...Snicker))

Let's also remember that it;s not an AC-friendly signal. Does it get into buildings downtown? If not, then forget it. Did they turn off the stereo when it was talk?

The 'hee hee's' and 'snicker snicker' would suggest you are about 23-years-old and inexperienced when it comes to sales - which is what the entire radio industry is about.

You have just given the same mantra as every inexperienced sports talk radio station salesperson across the country. Which is why sports talk and X103 type stations have nothing but bars, condoms, sex-chat lines, and concert and sports tickets brokers.

Single men purchase clothing to IMPRESS women, therefore, single men will ASK women WHERE they should buy their clothes, and what style to buy, and all 'toys' are purchased to IMPRESS women (the only focus of a single man), so he will find out what 'toys' women like, and purchase them. Men will FOLLOW the trends and women dictate the trends. You can argue this, but you will never sell this to anyone who has worked in the business for any length of time.

Whether you find out from your 'guy' friends (who got his tips from a woman), or from a 'girl' friend, it all comes from the female persuasion. This is something LONG known by ad agencies, which control which radio stations are going to survive, and which ones are going to scrape by with the few bucks from bars and condom buys.

Wrong about me again... and the hee hee and snicker snicker is fun worth having....

AS FOR TODAYS MALE:
You might have asked women "back in the day" where to buy your clothes but I guaruntee todays male does not. As for the condoms and pills and strip clubs, their money is good, spends well and props bottom lines strongly or have you so quickly forgotten the Trojan man campaign? Essentially 18-34 buy extensivley more than I just approached and I believe...yep, I did mention cars, homes, jewelry, clothing, sports tix, and a whole other array of merchandise and never once mentioned condoms and or even stooped to penis pumps. Yet AXE and many other National companies have reassesed their market approach and have spent MILLIONS to pursue this new buying male class who has more credit than you did at that same age group, and yes... more debt to. Consumer Credit Counseling will be placing that buy where... not on soft AC.

There are more single male dollars available today than ever before and as the "freecreditreport.com" commercial says, if I would checked I'd be living in a home with a yard for my dog instead of living in my bad credit wifes parents basement! HEE HEE... HA! HA! DOH!

Of course! That's what a format like this will almost always do!

Well okay, you win.

Now, back to reality. Again, you spend millions on a radio station to produce profit and find a format that agencies/buyers will BUY! You can sell your above concept all day long, but no one will buy it. You wouldn't be the first one to use the logic, so not knocking your theory, but it doesn't relate to dollars and cents.

There aren't enough of YOU single BIG SPENDING men out there. You may run in that crowd, and see 'millions' of people just like you in the bars you hang in, but across the board, it's a VERY SMALL segment of the listening audience.

Theorize all you want, but whether you are right or wrong is irrelevent when talking about a sellable format. If car dealers were selling all these cars to your age/gender group, they would be SCREAMING for the format you call for. But they aren't because you are a small minority that are going to buy cars ANYWAY, without be prompted to do so by a radio ad.

WKLU is basing it's current format on the 'theory' that women in general will like old, stale classic rock - WRONG. That's still grey-haired, 'man that's cool' kind of guy format. So he won't sell any advertising, even though those 'old guys' have more credit than you.

The 93.9 format will take that female crowd klu thought it was going to get. Wklu is playing a format that the owner, a 50-ish single guy, thinks is 'cool.' Unfortunately, it's 'old guy hip.' Typical listener - grey hair (with beard of course), flannel shirt, baggie jeans about two sizes too big, belted just below the navel, for that gut-roll overhang to sit on.

Women that grew up in the 70s/80s - typical office worker, pictures of couple kids on her desk, home life and family-oriented -didn't like their big brother's music while growing up (WKLU), and only enjoyed disco while it was a fad, but still remember, like and are comforted by the 70-80s POP - which is now 93.9.

THAT is a sellable format.

Ike's Rock out with your **** out crowd will grow up tomorrow and it's musical taste will change as frequently as the radio formats in this town. Don't think Godsmack is going to be around in your 40's Ike.

Yep... ur right Radioho and and I'm 15 and I have no vision.

You guys miss the boat.... The question still stands, what would you put in there? Atleast I had balls to call out whats missing inthis market and not being played to.... So again, what format would you place? Oh, let me guess: SOFT AC

Done.

Oh and by the way Russ... I mean Radioho you cant say Oldies!

Don't give Oasis that much credit. He flamed out with Old Skull and it was quite embarrassing for him I'm sure. My views are WAY more insightful than the moldies format he calls oldies.

I respect Ike's view. Nothing wrong with another rock station that doesn't feel it has to compete by playing the same songlist as a competitor (that philosophy has always stunned me, who would think like that?). Give Ike the mic and some tunes and let 'er rip my man! I'm sure I'd be listening, but if I'm an ad agency I'm just not buying. You can't change that agency mindset.

You need to start talking to Byrd's people, they obviously don't care about ratings or selling advertising.

The market analysis in this thread is quite humorous and interesting. I know this is a 93.9 thread, but I've noticed a lot of the discussion on the boards in general is focused on the gender and age demographics.

What about the cultural demo? Mexican Regional, Rhythmic Contemporary, etc.?

A female targeted station on the northside is perfect. Cumulus has made some poor decisions since taking over the Susquehanna stations, everywhere, but this seems to be right on. For those who were hoping for a return to Christian, you're the same ones who would have come on these boards and said they should have never changed in the first place, which is true. But, business is business and they did. That chapter is over. Move on. I know it's hard in this business for those who can't accept change, but that's something you have to deal with while unpacking boxes at Wal-Mart and explanes some of the rage on these boards.

This accomplished the goal they were probably after; a female targeted station that serves the audience they had when they were most successful without the impression that they made a mistake by switching in the first place. If there's one thing Atlanta will never let David, Bob, Chris and the rest on Shadeland do is point out they were wrong, so this was the best option they had to make it work.

A station for women attracts classy advertisers who pay their bill. The advertisers on those
male formats such as alternative and classic rock just don't pay their bills and run off those with
class who don't want their spot aired next to slime. Strip clubs, bars and head shops are bad news.
Single guys, only a fool would run a station for you!

Strip clubs, bars and head shops are bad news.

I see this mentioned several times. I listen to classic rock stations several hours a day and I've never heard advertisements for these.

Being one of those who frequent stip clubs, bars, and head shops I would definitely remember if they were advertised on my favorite stations. ;)

After salespeople get ripped off a few times and no commssion. They quit selling these guys.
And, the formats they support are gone too.

This is a silly arguement. There are more dollars spent in the market towards women. Look at the numbers people. You have more room for another country station, another pop station and even another type of AC station before you even think about doing any form of rock music.

Isn't Shirk's Lebanon station getting some sort of 'boost' to come down into Indy?
