WARM CHARTS/WSCR CHARTS

HEY EVERYBODY...

MIKE EVANS here. Looking for something...and MAYBE somebody out there could help me out.

For the past 2 and-a-half years, I've sort of gone back to my roots and returned to Marywood University's VM-FM 91-7. I started out with the intention of just building a back alternative catalog for them...but the "alternative" bug bit me once again.

So now I find myself in grad school. I've been back on the air (all over the schedule) since March. This semester and next semester find me doing Tuesday mornings 8am to noon.

However, there are a few hours set aside each day for other types of music (namely weekday mornings from 10am to noon). So NEXT semester...I'll be splitting my shift...8am to 10am alternative...10am to noon pre-Beatle oldies.

I don't however want to approach my Pre-Beatles segment like an "oldies" show -- no BOSS JOCK or any crap like that. I'm approaching this music from more of an historical viewpoint as opposed to a nostalgic one. Each week, I want to focus on a different genre of music, or do artist spotlghts, or even focus on a particular year.

That's where I could use your help. Does anybody out there have old WARM or WSCR charts? You know, those lists they used to put in record stores (or whatever they did with them -- I wasn't born until '71). Occasonally, I'd like to countdown the top 40 records from a specific week. I have all the music -- hell I have enough music to keep this show going for YEARS! I just need the charts.

Boz used to have them when I worked at WSGD. But I don't know where he is...and I don't know where he got them from. I'll take photocopies...I'll do the legwork...whatever.

If you'd like, e-mail me at the Rock...and maybe we can work out some sort of deal.

[email protected].

thanks in advance...MIKE E

I did mention this elsewhere on the board a couple of times, but a lot of the songs you see on WARM's "Hits of The Week" never, never, saw the light of day. I can't speak for WSCR's practices and policies, but as many as a third(or more)of the songs appearing on those weekly WARM handouts weren't even a consideration for airplay, they were simply added to the list so it would top out at 40 titles. Not only were they never played, many of them were never in-house, they weren't in the station's possession. The weirdest aspect of it all is that no one ever noticed and questioned why.

...no BOSS JOCK or any crap like that.
Crap like that could be the future of radio, it could make radio fun again, it could be the salvation of terrestrial radio. If you haven't noticed, commercial radio is going through a transformation right now that will likely determine if and how it survives. If I were to wager serious money on the future of radio, I'd find it hard to lay down huge bucks on the side of traditional, commercial radio as it exists today. Things are changing, and they're changing quickly.

:D The first WARM chart I checked (JANUARY 28, 1967 ) turned out to have Don Ho at #8! Didn't somebody just mention that they played that song to death because some management type loved it? LOL

Good luck Mikey.
