WARM finally sold

Given all the mistreatment of this popular AM frequency in NEPA in recent years, I guess it was time for Cumulus to finally give up on this forgotten station.

Now this situation might be odd because the supposedly new "Loud" urban format won't have an FM translator rebroadcasting WARM.

Overall, NEPA never has a station playing R&B and Hip-Hop. This is not Philly or NYC. Oh, Harrisburg currently has one on FM.

o_O Wow! Four stations, two with translators, for less than $180k!

I don't really see R&B/Hip-Hop working in NEPA, especially without an FM signal. Not to mention all of the work that the WARM transmitter site supposedly needs.

They'll find an fm translator and file to take 590 non directional.. id almost bet $20 on it. The only way their model works is having an fm translator an they dont need a highly directional or multi tower signal.

Heard about the WARM sale and thought I'd drop in for old time's sake to see if there was any talk about it.

Best of luck to a legendary signal. Would love to see something good happen to it.

Its potentially, to very likely goign to do Loud Radio.. what their other stations are doing

Loud Media also owns WKCE 1120/105.1 Knoxville with a “mid-century” classic hits format. Replicating that on WARM is very plausible.

entirely sperate unrelated companies

Looks like WARM may not be carrying Loud Radio. I'm listening via a software-radio and it's simulcasting WLGD.

EDIT: WLGD's website is listing 590 AM in the logo. Looks like the new owners quickly spun it off.

Don't know if its a temporary LMA with Seven Mountains now that the folks running Loud Radio is owning it until they launch a new format. Anyway, WARM is such a wasted signal.

Seemingly it is a spin off. In the TOH ID, right after reading WARM Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, they say "The Mighty 590"; if this was a temporary LMA, I doubt they'd do that.

Surprised we haven't seen any articles on this yet.

It would've been nice to see WARM 590 go back to an oldies format. The oldies format would've worked if the signal was improved.

WARM was spun off i beleive to the folks who own the 1600 that Loud was on.

If oldies was viable, or improving the signal was hugely viable someone wouldve done it. Its expensive.

I'm not aware of 7 mountains having anything to do with WARM.. no published reports on that

Is 590 WARM back to its 5kw day & night? The info I found said it is not, why? I realize it cost money to do this, but you'd want a decent signal, right? It seems they suffered some kind of damage a number of years ago at the transmitter site.

Also are they using the original 3 tower array, again, from what I read it seems they are but at lower power.

WARM when I was growing up in northern NJ ( 15 miles west of NYC and about 85 miles SE of Scranton ) had a great daytime signal, this was back when they were RnR in the early 60's and they were 5kw day & night.

WARM dropped 2 towers of the 5-tower 5kw directional day/night array.
They now run a 3 tower directional day with 1.8 kw Day, 3 tower DA night with 430 watts.
There is a CP to move K269CF 101.7 to Scranton and that seems to be associated with WARM.

OK, they had 5 towers, now down to three and lower power. Did not remember they had 5 rather then 3.

Like I said they had a good signal over in NJ days years ago when they were 5 kw day & night. That signal that came my way in NJ ( 15 miles west of NYC ) was the same lobe that went over Scranton & Wilkes Barre.

The AM kinda sorta exists to feed the translator.. a hgue am signal isnt always needed
