Now that the 70s have popped up and summer is here, has everyone gone fishing? We had some chat and discussion on here for a bit, now its dried up it seems. Summer is a great time for radio in Alaska---- ;D
Record warmth...76-degrees in Anchorage! Nome remains in the deep freeze (comparitively) and I'm beginning to wonder if it'll be warm enough to paint the tower in a couple of weeks. Gotta remember, especially after consolidation, there aren't all that many people in radio in Alaska and many of those are entirely locally-oriented with no interest in the industry "outside" and far, far too intelligent to even think of moving to the lower-48 to "advance" their career. This is the BEST time of year in AK! The swarms of tourists haven't arrived yet; there are special deals on tours and cruises for in-state residents (gotta show proof) and there's no crowding. Especially, very few RVs bringing traffic to a crawl. On the other hand, construction season seems especially well uncoordinated this year. State DOT not talking with local road people with the result that not only are major routes closed or narrowed to one lane, all the local roads that might possibly have been used as detours are similarly closed or narrowed; outright closure being the norm. Now if we can just get the head-tax on cruise ship arrivals passed we can quit worrying about oil revenue! Just as an aside, anyone hear anything about KENI yesterday, particularly in the morning? Signal in Beautiful Downtown Wasilla was only about 40% of normal and even the has from the traffic signals was coming in stronger that them. Today it seems back to normal.
Sounds like we're neighbors...I'm just barely outside Beautiful Downtown Wasilla.Just back from Anchorage minutes ago; checking the time/temp signs on The Parks and saw a range from 71 to 76 but none higher, that was at about 5:30pm.If you care to get together for coffee or a beer, contact me at: [email protected]
