WARM Wins December

KRWM doubles ratings to sweep every demo in December. KJR-FM is 1/2 of its share a year ago. Wonder why they did not choose to go Christmas music this year?

They went all-Christmas on X-Mas Eve and Day, but not for the rest of the holiday season (only sprinkled in music). KMPS 94.1 also had all Christmas from Dec. 23rd to Dec. 25th when "Christmas on Music Row" was on.

Did you see how KLCK took a severe nosedive in the ratings? From a 2.6 to a 1.7 all in three months. That's a 35% drop.

Another shocker: KIRO-AM Sports went from a 3.5, 3.1, 2.5. That's a 28.5% drop

Also, The Brew 104.9 went from a .3. ,.3, .9 in three months, finally getting traction in their new format, a 200% increase.

KNBQ got a one share as an FM simulcast which means KJR AM/KNBQ FM has a huge lead over KIRO-AM which may explain some of the KIRO loss. One has to wonder if Bonneville will look for an FM partner for KIRO-AM (maybe KMCQ?) The Brew is very strong in the early going on a terrible south end signal. Imagine how that format would do on a full market stick. One has to wonder if KLCK would be better served going this direction. The Brew beats KLCK in many demos, especially men, with just half a market signal.

Clear Channel has to be happy with its decision to simulcast KJR-AM and KNBQ and it's decision to take 104.9 to The Brew. Both are paying dividends in the early going.

Leave KMCQ alone! Jeez!

My thoughts here, first off, LBB, why are you so obsessed with simulcasting 1150 on 98.9? Have you come to the point where everything on the fm dial has to be talk? Click's format has worn out for me some time ago, so not sure what I would think about that, but something needs to be done about 104.9, that format does deserve a full market signal. Maybe CC could work out a deal with KDUX to switch frequencies so that KSGX could move to Capital Peak and share with KNBQ? Spike told me that they didn't want to mess up the station by going all Christmas this year. Oh and whoever thought of taking 104.5 for KIRO, why destroy a station that seems to be better than KJR-FM when it is just getting going? I would take Bill W's 93.7 before I'd take 104.5.

I'd leave KIRO where it is (on 710 khz)! KMCQ is getting started and PPM ratings are going up even though there's little advertising. Not sure what to do with 98.9 (maybe KIXI 98.9 and 880?) If Smooth Jazz is ever put back on it would probably be unfortunately yanked in a few months (ratings were dropping at the end of 2010 when KWJZ went off). Or, someone can simulcast 100.7 HD-2 (maybe the KMIH 94.5 xlator?)

I think you all already know how I feel about that, use 103.3 already! Wouldn't smooth jazz be a better listen at work format than AAA anyway? Speaking of KMIH, does anyone know what students do at that station anymore? Seems as if the station is mostly automated with a few live shows a week.

If it weren't for KMCQ, about half of this board's content from 2011 would be stripped.

tru dat

Love that station. Heard "Rock Lobster" today, and I had to try to remember the release of the 52's first album. Yes, the 70's!

103.3 wouldn't work for me, it would have to become full power to serve a large market like Seattle. You need a heavy duty DX radio to hear KMTT's Downtown Seattle xlator in Bothell or Kirkland. But then the joy of DXing K103 in Portland, etc. goes away...

Actually, I hear 103.3 has been allocated to Oak Harbor for an originating (if not full power) station. It's a pretty tight squeeze up here, between CHTT Victoria on 103.1 and CHQM Vancouver on 103.5. The auction for it is yet to come up, but given the dominant signals of these two stations, I can't see the point in bidding because it will get KILLED outside of Oak Harbor and the very immediate surrounding area and to really make any $$$, it would have to be heard from Bellingham down to Everett as well as Port Townsend and Sequim......

Sorry, but it's too crowded in NW WA and the Lower Mainland to put any more construction permits up there. Now, there's stations on almost every frequency up there.

There is. But that stops nobody. Now Seattle FM channels are fair game (seeing the CP for a KPLU translator on 101.5 in Bellingham.) I wonder if it will get to a point where new translators/LPFMs in NW Washington will jump on this particular bandwagon.......

But like I said, I don't see any point on bidding on 103.3. Not with what it's got going against it. But you're right, it's just way too packed up here......
