WARM's Final Numbers

As Sandusky blows up WARM laying off the entire airstaff, adjusting music and website you have to wonder why. KLCK performs significantly worse in their cluster and WARM is still stronger than many other stations in the market. The last couple of books were not good for WARM, but that happens every summer and even then station remained top three 6+. They were top ten 25-54 adults and top three in women. That is not bad and the PD and staff should take pride in their success over the last decade and now. I don't think I have seen a station that performs this well, get blown up. They will do well during Christmas, but may find next year challenging.

Does make you wonder what they will do the KLCK. Shellie Hart would have made that station great, now if she is successful at WARM it is KLCK that will get hurt. Won't WARM be going after the very demo that KLCK is trying to get? If you take KLCK younger doesn't that go after the very demo that KQMV now owns beating KBKS handily in the last couple of books?

The big winner here is KCMS. Expect to see their numbers shoot up along with KJR-FM. Christian AC and Oldies share a great deal with Soft AC and now that WARM is slowly leaving that arena watch KCMS. Spirit would be wise to hire Tom McCarthy and the rest of the WARM staff.

Might as well listen to KXXO from now on. They have a WIDE soft rock playlist, and still lots of '70s and *1960s* songs on the playlist! I heard "My Girl" Temptations about two days ago.

As Crainbo said: Fewer 70's and 80's titles and much higher spins for Maroon 5, Katy Perry and others is my perception too. The blow out of staff supports it a bit. There are basically two kinds of AC. KODA (Sunny FM) in Houston is the powerhouse version of SOFT AC. Not my cup of tea, but my wife's family listens a alot when we are back visiting her family. Were there last week and they play songs like Just A Kiss, Hall and Oates, and Bruno Mars Just The Way as most played. Older AC currents. They also play a lot of cool gold. They might occasionally spin a song 22 times a week, but most are in the 17-22 times maybe three times a day for a most played. Typical Soft AC with lots of gold. Wide library and variety as crainbo mentioned WARM used to have. Seem tighter now.

There are other AC stations that lean HOT-AC like Lite in NY or KBIG. These stations play Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Carly Rae as their most played and play them 30 times or 40 a week about every four or five hours. I listen to LITE, Z-100 and WPLJ online from time to time.

My perception is WARM has been moving for the last few months to the Lite, KBIG arena. Could be wrong, it is all perception. Clearly a younger sounding staff would support this position. Not saying they are incorrect. Lite and KBIG are strong stations, but so are KODA and other Soft AC stations. My query is what they will do the KLCK, if they attempt to go more HOT/AC in music and staff? My bet is KCMS is smiling. Same thing happened in Dallas when the soft AC got more Hot, the Christian station killed them. Sorry for all the Texas references, I spend a great deal of time there. Keep an eye on KCMS in the next couple of books

Then let KLCK go CHR. Like we have two CHRs already in the area.

I don't get that KLCK and KRWM are both looking toward Hot AC. That's sort of messed up. But like I said, KAFE and KXXO are my "friends"...

But KQMV is already CHR. If KLCK goes CHR, then you'll see some tweaks to KQMV. Maybe they could do something like what KDMX in Dallas did, but I don't think that would work here because I don't think Dallas has a Hot AC anymore unless you count KVIL these days.

It seems odd KRWM would be doing this. As mentioned, KRWM always goes through this every year, but the payoff with the holiday format MORE than makes up for it. The advertisers and listeners in general didn't seem to be jumping ship.

Not sure how KCMS benefits. Haven't heard much Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson on 105.3 MHz. Most Christian pop doesn't cross over to mainstream and vice versa. Beyond the handful of crossovers, they're usually pretty separate and if most of the songs aren't that familiar (or have a "preachiness" to them), I don't see how KRWM listeners would be attracted to them. If KRWM were to really tank, KPLZ would seem like the bigger beneficiary (or at least claim a nice slice of that pie.)

I think you'd have better luck trying to guess the winning lotto numbers than trying to prognosticate what the Sandusky group will / is going to do. One thing has been proven they win, bet on that.

Missinformation. Love the sacrasm. Sandusky has changed 98.9 multiple times and is changing WARM. I doubt it is because they are winning. If they are winners it is an unusual strategy to be sure. LOL.

What you say is true, no one knows where WARM or KLCK will end up just speculation. It is noteworthy when an established station lays off and entire staff, PD and adjust music. (not as noteworthy as kokomo missing from KMCQ, but up there) Will see next book if KCMS comes up as a result. With PPM it won't take long. Meantime I think most posters wish the best to the WARM crew and no disrespect to the new team.

Okay back to important matters like HD frequencies, KMCQ and KXXO.

With a nod to the TITLE of the thread...what are rankings for WARM in adult demos?
I am under the impression they must be aging or they wouldn't make the changes...meaning WARM and KIXI own the upper end of the demo's in music formats. Are they inside top 10 for 25-54/M and/or 25-54/W?
