550/WKRC Cincinnati dropped off completely sometime after 7:30 am, and was still off when I arrived at work around 8:10 am.

Verified a couple including WDUN/Gainseville GA with repeated station I.D.s. WDUN was on top for most of my commute, though it was fading rapidly with the arrival of full sunlight.

When I first tuned 550 and found KRC off the air, I was able to log WSVA in Harrisonburg VA with an ad for Valley Building Supplies in Staunton and other locations.

I was a little surprised I didn't hear WGR in Buffalo, although there were a couple of very weak stations barely audible above the threshold, and WGR could have been one of them.

I listen to KRC most mornings. They were off from about 7:50 to 8:20 AM today. These are not exact times, but should be close.

In Columbus,IN in the early 1980's, I heard WKRC drop off for less than a minute...St Louis sounded great there in KRC's absence. Not sure if St Louis has a night time null toward Cincy or not. The Georgia station is pretty common in Indiana in the morning, but WKRC is still stronger.

30 miles north of Chicago I hear KTRS during the day on 550, but at night I can sometimes hear WKRC among others.

I am too, however they were missing. Even though STL is an hour behind us here, I'm guessing they would have switched to their ND daytime pattern at the time I was listening.

I used to drive to St Louis from Cincinnati every other week, and it was interesting to hear the 550 frequency gradually switch from WKRC to KTRS while I drove I-64 through southern Indiana.

KTRS pretty much owns 550 at night here norhtwest of Chicago. I sometimes hear WKRC, but not all that often.

So I was surprised this past weekend when I spent three nights about 120 miles north-northeast of here in Wisconsin. I expected to hear KTRS, perhaps battling WSAU. Instead, what I got....each night....was WKRC blowing out everything else.

Back around 1971, I lived on the far Westside of Indianapolis, near Ben Davis HS, and 550 kHz was an almost equal mix of both Cincinnati and St. Louis.

The Ferdinand exit is about right for the 550 changeover. Here in Owensboro, KY St Louis is dominant but WKRC can be heard if I null out St Louis.

On the Western Kentucky Parkway, WKRC is dominant until Ohio County. By the Natcher Parkway 550 becomes St Louis.

I've been hearing another station under 1100 WTAM nights and cannot identify the station. It runs syndicated talk all night long and airs only the commericials that accompany the talk show, but never identifies TOH or bottom, going right into IRN news. I don't listen every night, but when I do, the mystery station is usually just above the threshold, with WTAM on top, strong, but subject to fading.

Would you give a listen some evening to see if you find the same. I'm curious if the other station could be KKLL in Webb City MO.

WKRC has a day null in the general direction of Rushville,IN at 60 miles. That's the closest point to WKRC that I can hear traces of St Louis in the background. Worth mentioning...I was one of the engineers at the current WKRC transmitter site in Cold Spring,KY when it was activated around June 1975.

Took a while, but I was through that area today & checked KTRS vs WKRC. Coming from west to east, WKRC becomes the stronger station at the Sulphur Leavenworth exit, which I believe is exit 86. A few miles west of there, WKRC & KTRS are tied. At the Ferdinand exit, KTRS has almost total command of 550 with just the slightest trace of WKRC in the background.

Another station with a nice little signal is WKYX Paducah,KY on 570. It's 1000 watts carries a good 20-30 miles east of Evansville on I-64. That's in the 100+ mile range. Good sounding station too.
