Northern New Jersey and New York City TV

OK, what are the most popular big league sports teams in Northern New Jersey?
I think most of the answers have "New York" in the name, with the exception of hockey and basketball which actually have New Jersey teams (and admit they are from New Jersey!).
______________

Harold, my friend, I said how Northern New Jersey relates more to New York City TV than Philadelphia. You disagreed. Michael Boehm says how he agrees that Northern New Jersey relates more to New York City. You agree with him. Why didn't you agree with me, but you agreed with him, even when my point was the same? He actually replied to one of my posts saying he agrees with me! I went over this already too.

Of course, what other nearby sports teams should we root for? Most sports fans from Northern New Jersey will like a New York team, no big deal.
______________

I'm not sure you have picked the right subject upon which
to make, what I presume, is your point.

A geographic, political, and demographic area such as
northern New Jersey is not defined by what professional
sports teams make their home in it. Despite the money
that such teams make, their impact on the overall
economy is small.

Professional sports is somewhat analogous to broadcasting
in that the placement of a team in any geographic area is
not controlled exclusively by market desires and pressures.
Just like a radio station must seek approval of the F.C.C.
to locate in a certain area, sports teams must have not
only the approval of the league but also the owners of
teams nearby.

The New York media has never liked the idea of a vigorous
broadcast industry in northern New Jersey. They simply
don't want competition. Likewise, the Yankees and Mets
would not like the idea of another major-league baseball
franchise located in northern or central New Jersey.

The effort to build a sports complex in the Meadowlands
was met with ferocious opposition from New York businesses
and politicos. Then-Governor Rockefeller of New York
enlisted his family connections to spread false rumors
of a New York sports complex in Sunnyside, Queens, to
weaken investor confidence in the Meadowlands project.
Rockefeller was certain that without New York backing
the project in East Rutherford would fail. Boy, was he
in for a surprize!! New Jersey bankers funded the project
and got the Giants to leave New York City to boot!! Goes
to show you, doesn't it?
