Warriors To KGMZ

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, big news today as the Warriors leave KNBR after nearly 40 years for KGMZ. With the limited 95.7 Signal they have added KRTY, and KUIC (both 95.3) as affiliates but might as well have added KKDV, AND KKIQ as well since 95.7 is rough in those Concord and Pleasanton areas. Will this move finally give KGMZ the big boost they have been waiting for? I really expected KNBR to retain these rights being how hot the Warriors are right now.

A major blow to KNBR to be sure, but there is still plenty of content....Giants Baseball/49ers Football/Westwood One/CBS Sports Radio/Local Hosts.....to justify keeping the lights on at both 680 and 1050 under the current Sports Talk format.

Wow, funny how their Bay Area affiliates are now:

KRTY - 95.1 (San Jose)
KUIC - 95.3 (Vacaville, Fairfield, Concord/Walnut Creek)
KGMZ - 95.7 (San Francisco, Oakland and Everywhere Else)

The Warriors will be heard on 95 in the bay!

While it's a blow to KNRB, it's actually quite smart for the franchise IMHO. The younger demos are more driven to FM than AM. Between those three stations, they're covering the Bay Area (and beyond - I get KUIC very well in Sacramento) quite well. As someone else mentioned, KKIQ would be a nice add for Sunol, Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore but...

**EDIT** Just looked at the FCC record. KMGZ uses an on channel booster to cover Sunol, Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore. What is real world listening like in that area on 95.7? When I lived in the Bay Area those boosters helped (and also hurt) in some places. Curious what things are like nowadays with the FM band so crowded.

Thats odd the Owners of KUIC Counts 95.3 Vacaville as the San Francisco Market. But when I look at KUIC's Profile itself its counted as Sacramento media Market.

This is the Reason why KUIC is Counted as both a Sacramento station and a Bay Area Station at the same time according to this Nielsen DMA Map.

I could be mistaken but http://seventhpoint.com/images/pdfs/2012-2013 Large DMA Map.pdf looks like the TV DMA, not the radio DMA.

KRTY is on 95.3, not 95.1
