Warwick Club Fire Coverage Question

Just curious, did the Boston stations come down to Warwick to cover this event, or was it only the Providence affiliates that did so?

The Boston affiliates do come down to Rhode Island to cover stories once in a great while, and I've seen them down in West Warwick sometimes to cover stories.

Thanks.

I believe that it was on TV in Boston - I know that the stations in RI were on the air nonstop for quite some time. I think it even topped national headlines.

Yes, all of the major Boston stations did send reporters to Warwick and it was the lead story for quite some time. WHDH ended up being in the somewhat embarrassing position of reporting that their former(?) reporter, Jeff Dederian, was part of the ownership team of the club that was eventually indicted.

It was even more embarrassing for WPRI - they eventually settled for $30 million out of court after their cameraman was accused of blocking people from exiting. They were also cited for conflict of interest because their reporter was doing a story on his own property.

Are you asking about the 2003 Station nightclub fire in West Warwick? (Which is not a part of Warwick)

Er, yeah, I know West Warwick is its own town, just forgot which one it was...

But my question is, are you talking about the 2003 Station Nightclub fire?

You'd expect 5 (the FOX station) to be on top of something like this... ::)

FOX NEWSCHANNEL was cutting in and out of WPRI's continuous coverage.Stating WPRI was thier Providence affiliate when in actuallity it's WNAC

We haven't had a story out of Rhode Island of that magnitude in quite some time. Not one that has warranted such expanded coverage on the local, regional, and national levels.

The last major story that made it to a national level were the floods that happened in RI. I forget when that was tho.

Floods February-March 2010.

Also don't forget networks shared resources too. Fox 5 out of NYC would've probably used WFXT's truck.

And WPRI was branded on all the video, as it was WPRI's video that was used all over the place.

Fox News Channel carried WPRI's overnight continuing coverage off and on, CNN aired it continuously from 12a to 5a? I forgot the time they dumped. NECN did that too.
