The radio station I once announced on, did that many times, when it would get very hot here in Selma.
Once it got a bit cooler, AFR and their local contact person would return it to the air.
Not too sure about this present moment but AFR and their local contact person may still do it.
We've had some very hot weather, as of late, in these parts.
Just my two cents on the subject at hand.

"Thanks for your patience New York! Our Engineers are doing some adjustments to our Transmitter/Antenna in NYC and as a result we are off the air. Anytime you put on a brand new station, there are always adjustments that need to be made as you dial it in. Thanks for being patient, it may be a few days, but we will return as soon as possible"

They told me that the station was off due to the extreme heat we was experiencing and it would return once things got a bit cooler. Later on that day, the station did return and I started back listening again.
I know it may sound silly but that's the way that ball bounced.

They probably had an issue w/AC and have to get one guy (probably that's all they have) to go out to the site and fix it. And that guy probably has another full time job and a family and can't just hop a plane to NYC at the drop of a hat to fix a problem that most radio stations would fix in hours or days like WFIF.
Just my take.
