WAS A FRESH IDEA AND MORE

ITS GREAT THAT STAR CHANGED THEIR NAME REGARLESS OF WHAT KIND OF MUSIC THEY PLAY. NOW THAT THEY ARE DRAWING THE ATTENTION OF LISTENERS ACROSS THE VEGAS VALLEY, THEY'LL GRAB MORE OF MIX'S LISTENERS AT THE SAME TIME. LETS FACE IT, MIX HAS YET TO DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. MARK AND MERCEDES ARE BORING AS ALL HELL AND THE MATERIAL THEY USE IS REPEATED OVER AND OVER.
I GIVE FRESH A FULL MONTH TO START STEALING LISTENERS FROM MIX. WITH MIX'S PD JUSTIN CHASE CONFUSED ON WHO TO GO AFTER, AREA WILL BE ABLE TO RIP MIX OF THE MALE LISTENERS WHILE FRESH STEALS THE FEMALE LISTENERS. SOON X1075 WILL ALSO BE OUT OF THE PICTURE BY BECOMING CLASSIC OLDIES 1075. IT WILL MODEL ITSELF AFTER KFRC IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH FEATURES LIKE MOTOWN MONDAYS, THE BEATLES BRUNCH ON SUNDAYS AND SIMULCASTING OF BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL GAMES AT NIGHT. 1075 IS EXPECTED TO BE STUNTING AT THE END OF OCTOBER AROUND THE 29TH AFTER VEGOOSE.

KKLZ already filled the oldies/classic hits hole. I don't think that KXTE will switch to a similar format.

ProfPride...ProfPride. I didn't know the University Of Phoenix Online was providing a Radio Logic program.

First of all, I will never take my "inside radio stories" from anyone so ignorant as to type their entire post in Caps Lock. Actually, I won't ever take anything I read on this board as factual. Most of this board is a bunch of people crying over "Jack AM/PM".

Outsiders point of view: The name change was a good idea. They then took a page from the book "How Not To Flip A Station", written by the people who brought you the several minutes of dead air as KKLZ flipped.

Who in God's name thought it would be a good idea to alienate their current listeners and run a freakin on-air music test the whole weekend. Stupid. Very very stupid. It isn't as if youre changing your format...its the same freakin station with a new name. Offer benefits to people who take the online test (cash, prizes, flyaways). Or, perhaps give away $102.70 every hour on the hour as youre commercial free for a week or so...but no. Not only do you put a music test on the station, but you continue to air COMMERCIALS and TRAFFIC. Who is listening to a music test in the car? And how the hell do the advertisers stand for that?

I think the ultimate affect the station will have to other station's ratings are Sunny's listeners that hate Celine Dion, and Mix's listeners that hate Pop-Rock like Fall Out Boy...but even then some of the things that Beasley does with their stations are completely counterintuitive and they may just end up alienating their listeners again. who knows.

A couple other things to note...since when is Mix going after anybody? Mix has basically set the game in the market in their format. Its the burden of other stations at this point to figure out how to take Mix down. Mark & Mercedes are a freakin powerhouse in this city. "Boring as All Hell" and "Repeated"...that has to explain why they got resigned and they seem to be untouchable ratings-wise.

X107.5 is not going to flip to Oldies. They won't try to compete with Jack's demo, and KKLZ's new found success. Oldies demo does not get the sales dollars.

Finally, Area may be able to steal some of Mix's male listeners when people can actually hear the station.

Professor, I know I speak for most of the board when I say you are misinformed.

I agree that this is just silly trolling. "Fresh" is the same station all over again, so why would people flock there NOW? Plus your justification is that Mix hasn't done anything new in a few years? Why would they do something new, when what they've been doing is WINNING?

Flipping a big stick like KXTE to Classic Oldies (is that even a format? Aren't all oldies classics?) would be signal suicide. As someone else pointed out, there's no money there. At least not in Vegas. I'll go a step farther than the last post an say that KXTE has no reason to change format AT ALL. I may not like Adam Corolla, but he's doing just fine here...

Re-branding it's name from Star to Fresh was without a doubt the smartest move Beasley could have made. In fact, they should have done it back when they flipped from "80's" to their new "Hot AC" format. How many times did we hear "The NEW Star 102.7". That got so old, even when they didn't change formats, they still continued to say "The New". With "Fresh" they're stating that they intend to promote the station, including adding T.V. ads. They need too. It worked in getting them listeners and some attention for Coyote. Most people probably believe their still playing 80's music... There is definitely a void here that they have the opportunity in filling. It sounds as though their still fine-tuning their product. A Plus is expanding their playlist. I would have preferred a switch to a Triple A format, but at least I hope they continue in adding music that the other stations aren't playing that deserves to be heard. The one thing that confuses me is their "Fresh" reference as "soft". Soft reminds me of the old KMZQ or (rival) Sunny. Fresh should be promoted as "FRESH" period.

I heard Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober yesterday afternoon. That song is definitely not "soft". Other odd songs for a "soft-format" station that have been played according to YES.COM: STP - Plush, Switchfoot - Meant To Live, Nickelback - Rockstar, Foo Fighters - Best Of You, Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

They took the "soft" moniker from Fresh in New York, and I completely agree, "soft" is not amongst the words I would use. "Today's Best Variety" "Today's Fresh Music"...but SOFT? Nah.

And the commercial is a direct copy of New York's, and again, thats not something that should have been copied. It directly names their competitors. Foolish.

I heard "Rockstar" too and thought, "this is soft?"

Then again, this is the same company that promotes "40 in a row" on KKLZ. Not 40 songs, 40 minutes. That's so innovative. YAWN...

True. But stupid ideas should be allowed to die, not be recycled.

What is everyone's opinion on FRESH attacking both SUNNY and MIX on the air and on their TV commercials? Will it be effective or not? Could it backfire?

Will offices switch from SUNNY to FRESH simply because FRESH says they are "soft"? Or is the music more important than slogans?

FRESH in New York has had some success, taking away a couple of shares from heitage AC powerhouse WLTW. But this be could due to the fact that WLTW reacted to FRESH by dropping their "LITE FM" name and toughning up their music. My guess is that if KSNE does not over react the way WLTW did, they will be OK since the music on SUNNY is more office friendly.

When you're the underdog, there's no harm in attacking the competition. But it's best done by saying what you're not, i.e. "not sleepy like Sunny", or "no hard teen Mix music" (or whatever he exact phrase is), which is what KSTJ is doing. I'll give them credit for that.

But... is there really a hole between KMXB and KSNE, and isn't KKLZ already in that hole?

jimmy eat world - "the middle"
i think i heard fall out boy...

again they are making a mistake positioning themselves as a "warm ac"... you dont play pop, but you play fall out boy? natasha bedingfield? cmon.

If they are trying to copy the CBS/NYC strategy they may look at KSNE as the station that's between FRESH and KKLZ.

The other day I noticed that FRESH was insulting the band Bread. In refrence to their music test, they said "Don't make us play Air Supply and Bread (like they would really put either one of those bands on their test). Being a lifelong Bread fan I sort of took offense to that. Anyway, minutes later I monitored KKLZ and noticed they were playing Bread, which they have only recently started playing.
