So The Billy Madison Show gets canned and not one thread? Not one comment?
Was it that bad? I listened a bit and liked... but nothing from this board at all?? amazing

There are no comments because most of the people on this board do not listen to radio...they only complain about it. Proof? Most of the comments on here are a week after the fact (ratings, firings, etc.)

BTW, I liked Billy's show, too. I am just waiting to see if Vydra is going to go it alone with traffic reports and a MORE MUSIC morning show.

You've got to realize that this board is extremely white, and extremely old. So there's a ton of threads about shows interesting to old white folk (Multiple threads about Brad Barton, Neil Sperry, Bizradio, talk shows, etc) but very little about stations that might dream of appealing to ayounger demo.

Little to no responses to a thread about Mix's music, no threads about i93's debut of a morning show to go head-to-head with Kidd, and damn sure no threads about the Hispanic stations that are now eating up a HUGE share of the 25-54 numbers...

Sure there's the occasional foray into the non-white, non-old subjects (Hi Bucwhyl and Salemjedi, how you guys doing???) but this board will salivate over a Russ Martin rumor or spend hours discussing a station (1360) and Jocks (P&K, BDH, etc) that get absolutely no ratings, and absolutely miss huge stories right in front of their faces....

Have to disagree with ya' "early 30's white guy".;) The only thing "asinine" is your incorrect spelling of the word. ;D Little1 is one of the few, and I mean VERY few on this board, who keeps up with what is going on with most, if not all the stations in DFW. His/Her analysis is logical and unbiased...two qualities that are hard to come by on this board.

If you knew anything about the radio industry (or ever worked in the industry) you would know that hirings and firings are a huge deal, comparable to format changes. Times are extremely hard for radio talent and boards like these keep everyone up to date about job openings and the like.

As far as the BMS being a hack show prep service show...gotta disagree there, too. There are those in DFW who use and have used lame prep show services, but Billy is not one of them.

Im fine Little 1..

Its true that this board does cater to white folk.

If you've ever seena radio prep sheet, then you know BMS was reading straight from them..."78% of women want THIS from the sig. other on Valentine's Day"...or whatever. It seems to anyone in radio that a LOT of their show was straight from the prep service.

Prep Sheets often get their info from magazines. I know I have used surveys from mags and have later seen them show up in the 'tired' show prep services being traded out with the station. A bit of that type is standard content but in all the times I heard the show, it was either conversation amongst the show members, Vydra doing her thing, or a bit with the sidekicks on the show. I honestly never heard too much of anything because the guys were cut back to breaks that seemed to be 2 minutes or less (more of the ppm madness).

I have no problem with content being taken from show services. My gripe is lazy jocks who use the services for the stupid/cheesy punchlines and/or those laaaaaaaaame canned parody songs circa 1975.

Sorry to see the BMS show go, Billy had a unique perspective and sounded pretty good. Good luck to them, hope they land a better gig.

The second sentence is the funniest thing I've read on here in a long time..

You get out of it what you put into it. It doesn't "cater" to any specific race, religion, ethnicity or gender. It is a product of it's participants.

I was suprised that I had to dig to find out what happened to BMS. I wasn't a fan but I listened now and then. I don't think the show was horrible. If you want horrible listen to Bo and Jim. How are those guys still on the air?

Bo & Jim have been around forever and a day. I personally think their show is WAAAY too "yuck yuck yuck" goofy humor. But they've been around so long, they're ingrained as "the classic rock am show"...thats just how it is. Their ratings aren't too bad either.

This is "Be Kind to Old Farts Week" so please, no blasting those of us who've been around the block a time or two. Just spoke with two other long-time radio guys here in Dallas. All three of us are late 50s-early 60s. We all wondered the same thing: Who is Billy Madison???????? I'm sure he must be a talented personality. But I have never seen his name on a billboard, in a TV spot, or any promotion, and don't have the foggiest idea what station he worked for. I do listen to the radio and try to keep abreast of current comings and goings and who's getting hired and fired. Usually, I either personally know the guy or woman who's in the news, or have worked with him/her, or at the very least, have heard of them before. Billy Madison??? I have don't a clue. And the threads I read so far have given me no real information. Who is this guy? Where did he work?
