WASA, Port Jervis, NY

I found this station yesterday while doing a digital scan. Mind you, I'm located in The Bronx, and Port Jervis is usually a little out of my range. Anyway, not only was I able to get WASA-LD, Channel 64-1, but I also got Channel 64-2, which ID's itself as WASA-LP (note the difference in extension).

WASA-LD/64-1 was running non-stop infomercials when I discovered them, and they appeared to start at the odd time of :20 and :50 after the hour. Their legal ID is a slide that reads "WASA-LD, Port Jervis, NY" with Muzak playing underneath it. Meanwhile, WASA-LP/64-2 is just a slideshow of photographs and postcards related to New York City, with a legal ID slide mixed in after every five or six slides, and no audio.

I wonder if WASA is eventually going to request "must-carry" on local cable systems. Ironically, I was at a relative's house over Labor Day weekend, who is located right in the Port Jervis area, and did not come across this station on the local Time Warner Cable system, so this station must be new.

Low-power stations do not get must-carry, and there is no requirement for low-power stations to cover their "city of license."

WASA-LD 25 (64-1) transmits from 4 Times Square. It's been there for about a year now, surprised you're just now seeing it.

My thoughts exactly, ansky!

I've just recently decided to de-cable one of my television sets (in the process of switching providers) and did a digital scan and discovered WASA. No idea it even existed, being in the cable zone, and all.

Why would WASA be licensed to Port Jervis and broadcast from NYC 70 miles away?

Because LPs don't need to be seen in their city of license.

It's been over a year since I turned on my digital (non-cable-hooked) TV. I turned on Channel 64 only to be redirected to WASA's new channel location at Channel 24. Still running infomercials 24/7, it seems, and when I tuned it, they started at :10 and :40 past the hour. Like a poor man's Ted Turner. Also, they have two new subchannels on 24-2 and 24-3, both of which consist of two different feeds of Chinese programming from something called ICN.

How is this station on the Verizon FiOS lineup in The Philadelphia market. It’s on channels 8/808 right between channel 6 and 10
