8:30 AM Martians

This would be My Favorite Martian, the reruns of the 1963-1966 Ray Walston-Bill Bixby show. It would be 2 years later that the cartoon show My Favorite Martians would premiere on CBS.

Ultimajock said:
...hmmm...both Merv Griffin and Dick Cavett were pre-empted in Washington by movies?...

Not unusual. In Atlanta WAGA pre-empted Merv and WXIA ran Cavett on
an on-again, off-again basis...and never on Friday night. In fact, the night
former Georgia governor Lester Maddox walked off the Cavett show after a
verbal set-to with football great Jim Brown, was a Friday night (in December
1971, IIRC). It was Channel 11's lead story at 11 PM, but they refused
to pre-empt their 11:30 movie and show Cavett while it was news. Instead,
Atlanta viewers had to wait until Sunday night to see what the fuss was about.

BTW, the show on Channel 9 at 9 AM was called Harambee.

WMAL's newscast back in 1971 was known as Total News 7.

also WFAN disappeared not long after these listings ( 1972 ) and everything they showed was still in b/w
