Washington Post Radio Switches to 3WT

That is according to the link below:

http://www.wtopnews.com/?sid=1232806&nid=25

It all starts September 20th. I'm still wondering what the schedule will be. I mean it seems like there is a lot of different shows, but I just don't see how there is enough time in a day to air them all. Here's what I'm thinking:

6AM-10AM Early Edition with David Burd and Jessica Doyle
10AM-12PM Glenn Beck or Tony Kornheiser
12PM-2PM The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly
2PM-4PM Tony Kornheiser or Glenn Beck
4PM-6PM Pat Gross
6PM-8PM Neal Boortz or Stephanie Miller
8PM-10PM Stephanie Miller or Neal Boortz
10PM-3AM Nightside (since that is supposed to be added)
3AM-6AM Phil Hendrie

No matter how it is programmed, it is probably going to do even worse than Washington Post Radio in the DC market.

Pat Goss is a weekend show so throw that one out. Kornheiser has to be a morning show, his afternoon obligation is to PTI. DCRTV reports the local shows will be Burd & Doyle from 5:30 to 8 a.m., Kornheiser from 8 to 10.

The key question could be which syndi talker will get the likely 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. slot between Kornheiser and probably Bill O'Reilly.

Could this be the schedule?

5AM-10AM Burd and Doyle
(8AM-10AM Tony Kornheiser after football season)
10AM-1PM Neal Boortz
1PM-3PM Bill O'Reilly
3PM-6PM Glenn Beck
6PM-9PM Stephanie Miller
9PM-2AM Nightside
2AM-5AM Phil Hendrie

I think that would porbably be pretty close to what it will be, any thoughts?

It's nice that those WWWT calls go big time in DC after such humble beginnings and a lengthy stay on a 1kw-D, 66w-N radio station on 1320 in Randolph Vermont. That station too was also known as "3 W T"..

If 3WT was going to get Glenn Beck from WTNT (owned by CC which also syndicates his show) I'd imagine it would be cleared to air live, at least two hours (10a-noon, probably the full 3-hour monty should Tony K not return) and possibly obligated to carry another Premiere/CC program as well.

Also, Bill O'Reilly, previously heard in D.C. over WJFK, will likely be heard live noon-2 PM as well. From its inception, it aired live on WJFK, then was moved to a one-hour tape delay briefly, going back to 12 noon before the arrival of Opie & Anthony sent the show to late nights, and eventually off the schedule... or was it directly off of WJFK, I don't recall... The point is, if WW1 has the "chutzpah" to lash WJFK into airing Bill live after a few weeks from 1-3 PM, they're probably giving Bonny the same business as well...

I'd think they'd have a live, local personality for afternoon drive, then Stephanie Miller on tape delay in evenings leading up to Hendrie live... then Nightside piped in from Utah... That leaves Boortzy... Hmm, 2-3 PM? 2-4?

As mentioned above, Pat Goss' [sic] expert show is intended for weekends.

On Boortz's show today, he said he was "going against the godfather (rush)" in DC. I would assume they will carry him live from 10a-1p, thus goes against Rush for one hour.

The way he phrased it, could mean the entire three-hour affair on tape delay with Glenn Beck live for at least two hours until 12 noon. And Bill O'Reilly, once again, on tape delay.

Getting Glenn Beck's show on 1500 and 107.7 shouldn't be an issue... WTNT will likely trot out another TRN show in his place. 820 could be a different issue - WFMD/930 has Glenn's show live for the Frederick area. Or does WFMD trott out a different host for that slot?

I'd be shocked if Jim Bohannon didn't stay - at least with his America in the Morning show (given that Burd & Doyle will still start at 5:30am, that's logical). Phil Hendrie's new show airs now from 1a-4a, so 3WT would possibly recycle the 1am hour at 4am. So... here's how I think the sched fares:

5a-5:30a: AITM* (L)
5:30-8a: Burd & Doyle* (L)
8a-10a: Tony Kornheiser* (L)
10a-1p: Neal Boortz (L)
1p-3p: Bill O'Reilly (L)
3p-5p: Glenn Beck
5p-7p: Stephanie Miller
7p-10p: Clark Howard* (or Nightside) plus Nats PBP
10p-1a: Jim Bohannon* (L)
1a-5a: Phil Hendrie (L 1-4)

* retained show from the WaPo format

And as a Cleveland-area aside, the "3WT" name brings back memories of the current WTAM/1100 in Cleveland - which sprouted the WWWE calls and "3WE" name in the 70's and 80's...

I have a feeling that DToTheJ is right that Boortz will be aired tape-dalayed from 12PM-3PM.

5:00AM-5:30AM AITM
5:30AM-8:00AM Burd and Doyler
8AM-10AM Tony Kornheiser
10AM-12PM Glenn Beck
12PM-3PM Neal Boortz
3PM-5PM Bill O'reilly
5PM-7PM Stephanie Miller
7PM-9PM Clark Howard (A big possibility)
9PM-2AM Nightside
2AM-5AM Phil Hendrie

I don't think that there is space in the schedule for Bohannon's night show to continue. WTNT will probably just move Dennis Miller to 12PM-3PM and put Jerry Doyle back on in the afternoons.

D.C. gets what it deserves

Glenn Beck -- Nazi. Bill O'Reilly -- Fascist. Neal Boortz -- Right-Wing Boor.

Babylon will be truly served by Goebbels wannabes on the low end and Goebbels wannabes on the high end.

As a result, look for the Washington Nationals to move their PxP to AM 980 next year.

Have heard Nationals may stick with the new 3WT, actually, which would be bad news for Steph
Miller fans (if indeed her show were to air tape delayed at 6 pm)--lots of pre-emptions.

By the way, anyone to the left of Marx (not Groucho) would feel that Beck is a Nazi or O'Reilly
is a Fascist. Franken, however (next MN senator?) is a left wing BORE :) And the great
success on both TV and radio of Beck and O'Reilly, compared with the libtalkers, is
driving the Left crazy! :) Oh well, at least Stuart Smalley sold a few books.

Let's see, do I dare play the libs' own game? OK.
Ed Schulz--COMMIE!
Randi Rhodes--....naah.
If I say it, does it make it so..?

Michael Moore is Goebbels, though :)

success on both TV and radio of Beck and O'Reilly, compared with the libtalkers, is

O' Reilly was canned by his previous Washington outlet, and Beck has been losing stations in big markets like Cleveland and Atlanta...

Or -- AM 1500: Fascist Radio for D.C.

Glenn Beck: MC of Pro-War Rallies, Wants War Opponents Put in Concentration Camps. Does the Dirty Work of Clear Channel. The Nazi term is justified.

Bill O'Reilly: Blindly Attacks Anything He Does Not Like. Does the Dirty Work of News Corp. (Fox/Murdoch). The Fascist term is justified.

BTW, why is Bonneville International suddely so fond of Fascist Radio? Earlier this year Bonneville bought a station in Seattle that is 100 percent right-wing.

Well, O' Reilly has actually been canned from not one, but TWO stations in DC. Before WJFK/106.7 (how in the hell any programmer thought he could mesh in a lineup that also features the Junkies and Don and Mike is beyond me), WMET/1160 had it for a cup of coffee. But I can't blame anyone for not noticing he was ever on WMET in the first place.

With Glenn Beck, his eviction from WTAM/1100-Cleveland was purely politically motivated. He garnered impressive ratings airing live in the 9-12 slot, and it was his top affil. But when Jerry Springer started his ill-fated lib talk show, CC needed a Cleveland affiliate to make the show semi-"state-wide." WTAM has no AM sister station, nor was any of their five FM signals ready to take the spoken word route. So... Beck was bounced for Jerry, in one of the worst PR disasters that station ever faced. Even as market manager Kevin Methany was claiming that he was Jerry's "talent coach."

Glenn ended up on three regional stations, all of which cleared him live. Jerry was such a bomb (reportedly, the ratings in that daypart for WTAM were slashed by 2/3!) that they went with a local talk host.

WGST/640 Atlanta has/is/perpetually will be beyond help. That station is always drubbed in the ratings in every single time period by WSB/750. Home of Boortz and Clark Howard. Beck was never a factor. And neither is Rush.

Game. Set. Match.

Nazi and Facist. Two opposite extremes of the political spectrum. "Justifying" two people of similar perspective to those lines? Well, you wonder why I don't take any of this bull seriously. I just want you to hear me laugh. ;D

Thanks for writing, you whacko. Now, pick up your toys and go home.

Mark my words: 3WT will go all-sports at some point next year, following the end of the Redskins season. By having the Nats and Capitals, I see Bonneville slowly building up 3WT as a sports station along the caliber of KTAR/620 in Phoenix (home to the Diamondbacks and Cardinals), so this syndie lineup is all a stopgap. Naturally, WTOP or WFED can air any PBP spillover, so that's already taken care of. WTNT and WTEM will pick up the scraps afterwards, after SportsTalk 980 is forced to give up the ghost... and CC will therefore have three worthless AM signals in the nation's capital.

If anyone thinks that 3WT is prepared to compete with a format like this, in a market like Washington, you are dead wrong.

I actually have thought that this whole 3WT idea was stupid from the start. DC is just not a talk radio market. Public radio does much better in DC than talk radio, so Washington Post Radio was actually a better idea than 3WT. I actually thought about 1500 becoming a sports station at somepoint myself, as I can't see 3WT getting higher ratings than WTNT, even with the nationals. Remember, WTNT has always done well with Laura Ingraham in the late morning, and that is her flagship. Glenn Beck certainly won't beat her. She's way too good for him. And, WTNT has Michael Savage.
