WASL SL 100 questions

Is WASL SL 100 rock now? The logo tells me it looks very much like a hot AC. It has been so many years since I last heard this station. How come they don't stream online? Yup, this is really an example "in this day and age it's really odd that a station doesn't stream online." Their new logo is one of the best station logos I have ever seen and I'm into graphic design. What artists are they playing now?

Yes, in the past, SL-100 leaned more AC/Hot AC, but I think once Roger came on board, they switched to a rock format with the "Real Rock Variety" slogan. To me, it's all over the place musically and the jocks need work.

The website isn't updated frequently or if it is, it's very generic material (i.e. cut and paste news).

Apparently they are doing good business, so thumbs up to the SL-100 staff.

It's all rock. Do you really want to hear the same classic rock chestnuts from the 70's played ad nauseam? I think rock fans want to hear not only their favorites from the 70's, 80's & 90's but also want to hear what's new. I'm 43 and I know alot of folks my age that love the Eagles and AC/DC but are also into Nickelback and Seether.

Here's a recent sample hour from SL100:
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Vasoline - STP
Rise Above This - Seether
Young Lust - Pink Floyd
Jeremy - Pearl Jam
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Hair of the Dog - Nazareth
Something in Your Mouth - Nickelback
Still of the Night - Whitesnake
Come As You Are - Nirvana
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
American Girl - Tom Petty
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet

What's our format? Is it Classic Rock, Active Rock, Triple A? I dunno. I'm tired of trying to fit into a preconceived formatic box.

No, I don't...I agree with you there. I would venture to say that it's your presentation that I take issue with...I just don't hear any excitement from the jocks or your imaging to bring it all together. You simply play this wide variety of rock music and there's nothing that ties it together. My constructive criticism is that you find jocks that have a passion for the format and prep their shows appropriately. Roger, I just don't hear that. I hear breaks with the slogan "Real Rock Variety",a PSA and then commercials. Again, if that is working for you financially, I don't have a leg to stand on...it just doesn't make me want to listen. One listener isn't going to make or break your station. I would rather listen to Rock 92 because Gregg brings it everyday. I'm not a member of the Gregg Rivers fanclub, but when he's on the microphone he makes it sound like he's talking to me. Forget the fact that they play the chestnuts...it's what's between the music that makes me stick around...even when I have my iPod on standby.

Maybe that's your problem...an identity crisis. :p ;D

I admire the fact that you don't want to limit yourself, but having a clear-cut vision of where your format and station is going is crucial. Again, I think I would focus on imaging and jock interaction. The sample hour you posted is quite diverse and shows a lot of variety...but I have all those songs on my iPod and can hear them on shuffle...consider that. It's not a shot at you or the station...I want local stations to succeed...just an observation.

I'm glad you have a staff that clicks for you and wish you nothing but success.

Still smells like WYNU and KGMO

Well I guess it really changed since I last listened. It's not the hot AC station it used to be. Really disappointing to hear but I enjoy rock too along with many other formats so it can't be that bad as you describe below although lol, I'm certainly not a Pink Floyd fan by any means.
