WASL/WTRO/WTNV Move into new studios!!

WASL/WTRO/WTNV moving!! WASL FM moved last weekend, and WTRO AM and WTNV FM moving this weekend into the new studios with
Burks Dr.pepper and Pepsi building just of hwy 211 north. Some of the stations may be off air over the weekend for few hours at a time.

Where did I get the idea that they were moving into new studios somewhere on the south side of Dyersburg? ??? I know that 211 is the old highway 51, and the 211 designation used to run from just north of Dyersburg, to where it intersects the four-lane 51 on the south side of Troy. But because the old Obion River bridge on the south side of Obion has been closed, apparently forever, the 211 designation now ends at Trimble, and the Obion-Troy stretch has now been renumbered highway 183.

Did they outgrow their studios on highway 78?

"moving this weekend into the new studios with

Could that be a cost saving move since Burks DP & Pepsi own them?

Probably because that's where the old Dr. Pepper/Pepsi plant was. It was on Highway 51 between the Dyersburg city limits and Four Points.

The 211 is the old hwy 51 and it is a brand new warehouse with many offices. The old dr.Pepper bld. at four points is not part of Burks anymore! all his trucks are at the same location as the radio stations. The old bld. on lake road was never owned by Burks and I heard that Chris Young with West Tennessee bought it from Mr. Parks of Trimble and plans are to use the old tower. The new studios are by Nordine plant in North Dyersburg.

What happened to the WTNV morning show? I noticed they got a syndicated show and eliminated the local duo.

So the new studios are in the industrial park?

I was not sure what highway number the state had assigned to the old 51 south of Dyersburg, but I thought it was 209 or 210.  I thought 211 ended where it remerged with 51 at the industrial park area on the north side of Dyersburg.  I remember a long time ago when WTRO was on St. John Ave. near the old fairgrounds, so in a sense, their new studios are back on the same road!

Is it just me, or have we west Tennesseans (or expatriate west Tennessean, in my case) just totally dominated the Tennessee statewide board here?  Other than that mention of a Chattanooga station down below, it's been all us!   ;D  Y'all rock on, guys!  8)

yes! right by the factory. the WTNV morning show don't know what happened but the Husband and Wife still work there.

Are they still on-air or are they used in some other capacity?

Well firepoint, a few years ago, a bunch of us got kicked out of the "Memphis and West Tennessee" section... because we were talking about Jackson. We were sent to the Tennessee board, and west TN has pretty much been the only people talking since.

Okay, that's cool. I took a survey on this site once, and one of my suggestions was a separate board for Jackson and west Tennessee, so apparently, there hasn't been enough interest here for that one yet! ::)

I worked in Dyersburg on Friday and noticed that the old Pepsi sign at the old building near Four Points has been taken down and replaced with a sign that says Wis Pak that has the Pepsi logo, and the old classic Dr. Pepper sign looks like it may have been cleaned up. I found out on the web that Wis Pak is a company that bottles Pepsi products (and apparently Dr. Pepper in Dyersburg) and has facilities around the country. So apparently the old bottling facility is still in operation, and the distribution portion is what has moved to the new building along with the radio studios.

A bottling distribution center and a radio station in the same building? Only in Tennessee! ::) What is the street address of this place? I'd like to mapquest it! ;D

It's 2555 Huish Rd. I've looked by the business names on different map sites and Burks Beverage shows with both the old address on Highway 51 and also the new address. WASL still shows up as being on Radio Rd.

There's one thing you definitely won't hear on the Burks stations: ANY kind of ad for a Coca Cola product. ::)

Meanwhile, just up the road, one county away, in Union City, they are bottling Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper in the same plant! At least, they were, back in the day!

Dr. Pepper is distributed in Memphis and Jackson by Coke as well. One thing that you can find in Dyersburg as a result of Dr. Pepper being distributed by Pepsi is Mr. Pibb, or Pibb Xtra. It's a lot more difficult to find in places where Coke distributes Dr. Pepper. But then I prefer DP personally. :D
