Radio-info.com says the 970 WFLA Tampa based "Schnitt Show" is being picked up by Compass Media for broadcast on WFLF/WFLA 540 in Orlando, among several others, does that mean the end of Bud Hedinger live in O-Town?
Todd Schnitt said:I cannot believe I have to write this letter, but many of you are being told a big, fat lie, so I just want to set the record straight.
The local management at 540 WFLF (those are the real call-letters - they don’t deserve to be called, WFLA) made a decision to drop my show from the lineup. I never asked to have the show pulled, never wanted to have the show pulled, and with two years left on a 3-year contract, I certainly never expected to have the show pulled.
Here’s the scoop. I started my show a year and a half ago as a stand-alone show on 610 WIOD in Miami. Within a few months, 970 WFLA in Tampa wanted to climb on board, and the guys at corporate threw in Orlando because they were in need of an afternoon show, and the folks who run the station had no good ideas of their own. They were just trying to dig themselves out of the “infomercial” hole.
The truth is, they never wanted my show on their station. They considered it a corporate cram-down, and complained about my style from day one. They bitched about my use of the word, “assclown”. They got pissed when I didn’t get all choked up at Charleton Heston’s announcement that he might have something like Alzheimer’s. When I called Martha Stewart a “bitch”, the program director not only e-mailed my operations manager: he also began copying upper management in Orlando. You get the idea. We knew the fix was in.
Fast-forward to a month ago. The guys at corporate said they would not let Orlando drop my show without lining up another affiliate. Corporate kept its word, and put my show on 1200 WOAI in San Antonio. My thanks to Andrew Ashwood, and the rest of the management team in San Antonio. These guys run a real radio station, they are committed to winning, and I’m going to help.
Since the debut of my show, WIOD has achieved the highest ratings in my time slot in the history of the station. Our show hit #1 in Tampa in only nine months. Thanks to you, my ratings went up in Orlando in three of the four books encompassing my tenure on WFLF. Still, they didn’t want the show, and so, it’s gone.
Now you know the truth. When Tom Benson (program director), Kay Stelling (local sales manager) or Sam Nein (general sales manager) tell you this decision was made by me, you will know they are lying through their teeth. Given they are so thrilled to be rid of me, you would think they would want to take credit.
My apologies to all of you who have stuck with the show. If you can’t listen to me on 970 WFLA, you can log on to Schnittshow.com, hit the WIOD link and go to streaming.
Thanks for your support. I’ll be back!
