WASTE OF TIME CALLING PHIL HENDRIE SHOW?

> Why does PHIL HENDRIE give out a phone number to call? Ever

Well first of all, how many phone calls does Phil Hendrie take during the course of his show? Not very many. So right there, your chances of getting on the air are very slim. And your chances of getting on the air are even slimmer if you don't sound like the kind of caller Phil Hendrie wants to talk to. Part of the screener person's job is to listen for callers "who have that certain something" with their words and/or the sound of their voice. Listeners that will sound great on the air "mixing it up" with one of Phil's....Ahem!...."guests"

Yeah, if you sound like you understand what the show's all about, you're not getting on the air.

It's like the WWE. When they interview fans standing in line for PPVs or whatever, they don't pick the ones who read the dirtsheets and know what's really up. They either pick little kids or toothless rednecks in faded Hulk Hogan shirts that look like they've been worn to every show since the 80s. In other words, complete marks.

I remember the first few times I heard segments of Hendrie while DXing. I had no reason to suspect that the whole thing was a joke. I wanted to call in and shake those idiots (particularly some over-exuberant telemarketer who constantly accused everyone of lying to him about things like their favorite color). It wasn't until I finally heard an entire show that I caught on to his comic genius. Now I know I can't call in because I'd just eat up time that should be spent on someone who'll really get angry.

Yeah, and I could be wrong, but it seems to me that a large percentage of Hendrie's callers are women.--A very large percentage! And that's because most of Phil's flamethrowing characters are in fact male characters. Although, occasionally, his favorite female character "Bobbie Dooley" will generate a lot of hot-under-the-collar female responses. I love that Bobbie Dooley character!---And I especially love Steve Dooley (Bobbie's husband), and the way in which he always chimes in (somewhere in the background) during the course of Phil's interview with Bobbie. Steve Dooley's voice is a riot!

Bobbie Dooley is probably my favorite Hendrie character. Mocking homeowners associations (often the premise being her pushing for some sort of ridiculous association restriction), talking down to middle and lower income people, bragging, interrupting constantly with the "Mmm hmm, mmm hmm," etc. It's a riot. Plus yes, the Steve Dooley character (or occasionally a different first name for the husband, if Phil feels like it) is a great sidepiece, usually reiterating what Bobbie just said, just saying it like an idiot. "Yeah, that's right, we don't want the old people out there," or whatever. The callers can become *livid* at times!
______________

The problem with the Phil Hendrie show is that once you get the bit...it's like listening to the same joke told over & over & over & over again. Hendrie gets tiresome real quick. No wonder Tom Leykis kicked his ass in head to head competition for Los Angeles drivetime ratings.

On a side note, Phil also provided the voice for "Intelligence" in "Team America:World Police".
______________

Agreed, the Phil Hendrie show can get a little repetative.. But the fact that he has been on the air all these years, and there are still people out there that are buying it proves the brilliance of the bit.
