Watch Me Pull An Overplayed Show Out Of My Hat! Again?

"I'm ridin' in your car...you turn on the radio..."

In El Lay it was "...you turn on KFI..."

I don't think there was a "you turn on 94.5 KOOL-FM"
version however.

So I'm riding in the car and I turn on the radio and KOOL
is running The History Of Rock & Roll...again!

Seemed like it aired on every major holiday weekend
last year too, other than their jockless, ArbyTron-less
Christmas/New Year's period.

Yo, PD Kris--how about "enough already"! ::)

I humbly disagree... Oldiesfan... KOOL is golden because of it's history, consistency... and tradition... The History of Rock and Roll on Memorial Day weekend is a Valley tradition....In the midst of all the music changes on KOOL, PD Kris has enough gristle not tamper with the KOOL traditions... It's a darn fine show...

I would bet that the "History of Rock and Roll" doesn't have any Zappa, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Ramones, or any other radio unfriendly acts.

I'll be the first to admit that I like the HORR. Every holiday (that it's played) I would hear bits and pieces of it and learn something new. It's not like a person sits through the whole thing, so it's still kind of fresh to them.

Oh and it's not like they are making a ton of new programming for the format either, so while the HORR is old, so is the format.

Smart man. KOOL PD Kris "Brought Back the Fun" Abrams didn't tamper with one of the most legendary radio shows of all time. HORR has always been a perfect fit for KOOL, and is streamed into the South Mountain bunker from start to finish, enjoyed by many IBEW brothers as we tip our Oban and Guinness to fallen comrades. We usually do the liquor store run during the Michael Jackson segment.

Not sure any of those acts originated anything within the HORR. Zappa maybe but his attraction was mostly regional.

There may be a tradition at KOOL, But this is not a new thing. For years WABC-AM New York (I think starting in 1999) Started to re-play un-scoped airchecks of shows from the 1960's and '70s on Memorial Day, The show was called "Rewound" I believe it can be heard this year on streaming audio. Complete with the old "reverberated" studio audio and all.

And it's on from 3am mst - 3pm mst at: http://www.wabcradio.com/Article.asp?id=713457

Have fun kids.

But it assures you will only hear Brown Eyed Girl once between Fri-Tues. So there is some bright spot for you, OldiesFan.

Tell it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Zappa and the Ramones are there, more will follow.

I doubt that Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods or Leo Sayer will make it any time soon. :D

One big difference: WABC was a legendary Top 40 station back in the day. KOOL-FM in the '60s was......what?

I know they claim that "If you heard the Beatles for the first time in 1964, chances are you heard it on KOOL-FM" (or words to that effect). Huh?!?!? I'm willing to bet the rent (or 3 gallons of gas, whichever is higher. ;D ) that 99% of Phoenix kids heard the Beatles for the first time on either KRIZ or KRUX. Was KOOL-FM one of the early FM rockers back in those days? Were they even on the air yet? I lived here for part of 1964 but I don't remember listening to any of the local FMs.
