WATD to take over where WJDA left off

Who, if anyone, will do the same on the North Shore for WESX, which features extensive high school sports coverage? WNSH? WBOQ? WLYN is already a leased ethnic operation, and I can't imagine WFNX, which wants to be a Boston station, being at all interested.

Maybe North Shore 104.9 (WBOQ) in Beverly. They claim to be the North Shore's local station, but I'm not sure if they're as "local" as WATD and WESX. I can't pull them in too well on the South Shore, but according to their website (www.northshore1049.com) they provide listeners with local news and high school sports updates.

James D. Asher: Spinning in his grave

James D. Asher must be spinning in his grave to see how his son Jay sold out on the community years ago and now is selling out for the almighty buck. Glad Ed Perry is still around.

I have recently heard local sports games evenings on WBOQ once in a while. I didn't listen long enough to hear what teams were playing.

So's Simon Geller & Ted WCRB Jones

> James D. Asher must be spinning in his grave

So must be Simon Geller (WBOQ, ex-WVCA, now "good time favorite" pop)
and Ted Jones, who I believe was the former owner of WCRB who specified
keeping it classical in his will (SURE we will...on an HD channel...)
Not that it matters much to me as I'm not into classical, but 2 more

Keeping in mind...

Keeping in mind, Bob, Simon played top forty rock n' roll 45's in the mid 60's, with great disdain for the music. Ah the good ole days: all analog studio, small mixer with rotary pots and BIG knobs (no long throw faders for him), a couple of pro turntables, and 2 Ampex reel to reels (no cart machine). When WMEX flipped calls to WITS he used to joke the new calls stood for "We Transmit Sh*t". Pure Simon.

Yup--and there were pix somewhere online of the old WVCA days.
(And somewhere, a clip of so of him talking...)
WMWM was pretty much the same equipment-wise in early 80s.<P ID="signature">______________

Quincy, WJDA's city of license, is beyond the "strong" portion of WATD-95.9's signal area (the red circle in the WATD coverage map), while Weymouth is just inside the red circle and most of Braintree is just outside the red circle.

However, I suspect WATD has a good signal in Quincy itself.

Might WATD also broaden it's news and sports coverage to include Quincy??

I would think that if WJDA-1300 adopts some sort of brokered format, many former WJDA advertisers may become interested in buying spots on WATD, especially if WATD begins to cover Quincy news on a regular basis.

One other thing: Would/could WATD owner Ed Perry try to move his transmitter/antenna three or four miles to the north of the present site to better cover Quincy, Braintree and Weymouth??

There is actually considerable overlap with the "local" coverage areas of WESX-1230 and WBOQ-104.9.

The one difference is that with WESX is an AM signal that is strong in Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull and nearby towns because most of the path the WESX signal takes between it's Marblehead transmitter and those towns is over salt water (In fact, a couple of years ago, I picked up a strong signal at night from WESX at the house my girlfriend was living in at the time, which was in Randolph).

Any change like that is not really possible due first adjacent WSRS/96.1 in Worcester. I think the signal WATD has will more than suffice for the area that WJDA covers, and then some. I know Ed Perry personally and if anyone can serve (or shall I say SUPER-serve) the needs of the South Shore (including Quincy and Weymouth) it is he and his WATD. Nothing could ever replace WJDA. But fortunately, WATD will be there. I think Ed will do just fine.

you can take this to the bank... Ed Perry isn't leaving that tower at the dump.

WATD has a great fall winter spring signal all the way up onto the North Shore.
I live in Wakefied ( and spend much of my free time in Marshfield) and I get WATD just fine here 9 months out of the year. The 0ther 3 months I get it good into Medford with no problem.
