ATTENTION

For some time now, we have been receiving numerous inquiries regarding George's absence from the show. Up to this point, George preferred not to disclose his condition to anyone. However, the time has come to let our many friends, fans and listeners know what is going on. George has been battling cancer; he is very sick and at this time, has become very weak. I mentioned last Saturday night that it would be terrific if all you great folks would take a couple of minutes and send George a "Thinking of you" card of some type. I'm sure this will help raise his spirits as he sure misses all you folks bigtime. Cards may be sent to:

George Denham

WATDfm

130 Enterprise Drive

Marshfield, Mass. 02050

I will pick them up at the station and deliver them to George. Thanks a million. Ed

Re: WATD Yesterday's Memories UPDATED

From WATD's website:

"A long time member of the WATD family, George Denham, passed away Saturday after a long battle with cancer.

George, along with Ed Bowen, was a co-host of Yesterday's Memories, on Saturday night for over 20 years.

[EDIT]

Arrangments for George, are through the Kraw-Kornack Funeral home , 1248 Washington Street Norwood. His wake is Tuesday (1/16) from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral services are 10 am Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the vocal group ' Hall of Fame'. Please send c/o Ed Bowen, WATD, 130 Enterprise Drive, Marshfield, 02050."

R.I.P. George. Your crazy antics will be missed at WATD. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his long time sidekick, Ed Bowen.

I've never met Ed & George, but have always enjoyed their show. I've always thought of them as being like the "Click & Clack" of Oldies in this area. They connect on a personal level with their audience and entertain them in a way that very few commercial DJ's still do, and they've done a lot to help keep the music forgotten by the mainstream stations, especially from the '50s and early '60s, alive.

It's sad to hear of George's passing. Condolences to his family and loved ones, and to his partner Ed and his WATD colleagues.

I'm pretty sure the people associated with WATD have Ed Perry's permission to use material from the website,

There is also another thread over on the Marshfield Forums the best community forum on the net at http://www.marshfieldforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22921

Also Ed and Georges website http://realoldies.com/

and I DO have permission of the MarshfieldForums to post this taken from a thread over there. Postings on MarshfieldForums.com are NOT copyrighted:

Ed Bowen says music was always a big part of George's life, starting with playing the viola when he was young. George also played guitar and was lead singer for the 60's rock group 'New Breed'. Not surprisingly, Ed and George met in a music store back in the 1970's.

George was not only a musician, fan, and host, he was a tireless advocate fair pay and royalties for the artists who were the foundation of the music business.

Any idea how many old BCN (read: from the good old days) are on ATD now? I heard a promo for Sam Copper the other day but haven't caught the show yet.

No one else currently on WATD was ever on WBCN as far as I know, besides Sam, who is on right now.
