As a long time fan of WJDA, when they went away I started listening to WATD. There are folks on that station that I love - Cathy Dee, Christine James and Rob Hakala. What I don't understand is why Rob was given a co-host, Dani Lynn the Life Coach? IMHO he did not need a co-host and certainly not her. If he needed someone to chat with, what about Dave Skill or Christine James or someone who know what they are talking about. I have to change the channel some mornings when she is on. Rob does a great job and I fail to see what Dani Lynn brings to the station. The boss's daughter is there too and needs some polishing but she is the boss's daughter so.... Just my two cents.
 
Liz Raven is terrific too and her enthusiasm for her job shows. I know Bill had some sort of health problem and is he back or in rehab now? WATD seems to be a very happy, positive work place. They are lucky to have that. Can't forget Dave Skill either - he went to hs and college with my brothers!

Just a guess: revenue. I've never heard her but according to her website she does a show Sundays at 7pm and I'd assume it's brokered. Perhaps her appearances with Rob are part of the deal.

If there's one thing life coaches know, it's how to self-promote. As a class, they are to self-improvement what Brad Bleidt and Sonny Bloch were to financial advice. Feh! :p

I can vouch for that! The station has so many awards for public service programming, it staggers the imagination. If you ever have an opportunity to visit the station, you'd been amazed on what you'll see. Ed Perry is a really decent guy and always the consummate professional. The impression I have always felt was that everyone who works there really enjoys working there and that everybody likes each other. That's a rarity in commercial radio these days. 'ATD is a class act.
 
I'll second that: Ed's da man! He's helped out dozens of college radio stations in/around Boston over the years, and he's been a good friend for many commercial engineers and stations, too. And he knows radio thru and thru. As their site says: since 1991 they've won ELEVEN MURROW AWARDS (!!!!!) And that's just the start...they've won literally dozens of RTNDA awards, too. I've seen the awards wall and it's like floor-to-ceiling and 15ft wide, and they still have to keep cycling the trophies in and out because they've got too many to fit.

All that and he provides a home for the Talking Information Center (Radio Reading) too! Pretty darned impressive for a station that's too small to reach Boston, but close enough to it that he has to compete with all the major Boston signals.
 
I don't want to leave the impression in my previous post that I'm knocking the station or its owner -- both have good reputations for community service. Even "class acts" sometimes have to make compromises these days due to financial considerations. And as I said, I'm only guessing about the original poster's question.
 
I have had the honor of calling Edward Perry a friend for over 30 years. He is a good man and broadcaster. WATD is a labor of love for him-he could have sold out years ago and never had to work another day in his life. That's not Ed or Carol Perry.
 
Thank you Schuyler - your thoughts make sense. Everyone else - I was not criticizing Ed Perry or the station. I just don't care for Dani Lynn and won't mention it again. I like the station and family members have seen the operation first hand and tell me how impressive the station is. Just my opinion.
 
Great local news, and dont forget Oldies on Sat Night! On Mondays I tune into Monday Night Talk and skip McPhee for one night.
 
I was on the south shore Saturday night and got to listen to the oldies show, real oldies!

Monday Night Live is a great show, I usually have to listen to it online. I have an invite from Bob to come sit in on it some monday night, which I hope to do sometime this spring, and have an early dinner with my favorite account exec before the show.
 
well, have that ad exec call me, and let me know......I will have my bike radio cranked on 95.9 fm
 
Ed Perry ran FM Educational Assoc. in the 1970s. As Aaron said he gave birth to college stations in the area. In 1973 his study got WZBC on the air as a Class D FM and several years later as a Class A FM @ 90.3 FM in Boston between WGBH and WBUR. 90.3 would have been the home of WUMB ,but UMass Boston stop pursuit in 72-73.
